BALD NIGHT, PURPLE SHIRTS AND A FREE BICYCLE AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY!

(MAY 13, 2008, PERRIS, CALIFORNIA) Perris Auto Speedway wants you! That is, they want you at the races for free or at a discount this Saturday! First, it is the track’s Annual Bald Night. Any fan that has a completely baldhead will get in free. If you are not bald and you want to get in at a discount, just break out one of those good looking purple shirts in your closet and you will save $4.00 off your adult ticket price. But, what about the kids you ask? At intermission, one lucky kid, 12 or under, is going to win a free bicycle. Oh yeah, you are going to see races – lots of them - as five different divisions will be on the track. The Extreme Late Models, MC Painting & Construction Super Stocks, PASSCAR Street Stocks, Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks and the Dwarf Cars. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:30.

“Bald Night is one of our most popular promotions,” promoter Don Kazarian said with a smile. “The rules are simple, if you have a completely bald head you get in for free. If you are not bald, but want to get in for free, we will have a barber stationed at the front gate to shave your head clean as a whistle. Every year we have a few fans who take advantage of the offer and a group of fans is always there to cheer them on.”

The first Bald Night at the track brings back a fond memory for Kazarian. “Some guy comes to the racetrack with a full head of hair and a girlfriend. By the time the races ended, he was bald and engaged,” he said laughing. “The guy shocked his girl by getting his head shaved at the gate to get in free. Then at intermission with the whole crowd watching, he shocked her again when he got down on one knee and proposed to her over the track PA system. She said ‘yes’ and the whole place went wild.”

For those of who have hair and still want to have by the time the final checkered flag falls on Saturday, there will be another deal. Saturday is the fourth night of The Power of Purple for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Any adult fan that wears a purple shirt will save $4.00 off their admission ticket. At intermission the drivers will be in the stands collecting donations from the fans as the track strives to raise $10,000.00 for the fight against cancer.

As stated in the first paragraph, at intermission one child 12 or under is going to win a free bicycle. “We had a bike giveaway on April 19th and it was a big success,” Kazarian said. “So when the PASSCAR divisions came back to the track on May 3rd, one of the drivers walked up to me and handed money to buy bicycle for the fans for the next three PASSCAR races. They had taken up a collection for that themselves. That was very cool and the winning kid will have them to thank.”

Every kid who gets in with a paid admission will get a raffle ticket and one of those numbers will be drawn at intermission.

Two weeks ago, 2006 track champion Mark Shackelford of Riverside won in the MC Painting & Construction Super Stocks, Tommy “Thunder’ Malcolm of Corona won in the PASSCAR Street Stocks and Roger Young of San Bernardino won in the Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks. All will be back in action this Saturday. The Extreme Late Models will be making their first appearance in a month and the Dwarf Cars will be returning for the first time in several years.

Saturday’s version of “Drivers Gone Wild” will include qualifying for the Late Models, and heats and main events for all of the divisions. Oh, yeah, it will also features lots of baldheads and purple shirts (yeah, strange combination, we know) and tons of family fun and entertainment. And, don’t forget the weekly PAS Dance Contest at intermission with prizes for the best dancers 12 and under.
