PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY HOSTS FIVE DIVISION
STOCK CAR RACE THIS SATURDAY! |
|
(SEPTEMBER 16, 2008, PERRIS, CALIFORNIA) Stock Car racing will return in full force with a five division show this Saturday night, September 20th, at Don Kazarian’s famous Perris Auto Speedway. Heading Saturday‘s program will be the popular Extreme Late Models and they will be joined by the MC Painting and Contracting Super Stocks, Modifieds, Street Stocks and Dwarf Cars. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:30.
Murrieta’s Jeff Dunham heads the list in the Late Model standings as the series hit’s the home stretch for 2008. However, it is anything but comfortable at the top of the heap as the Bartels Harley-Davidson duo of Bill Bartels (Marina Del Rey) and Mike Kirby (Torrance) could both relieve Dunham of the top spot on Saturday. Bartels is only seven point behind Dunham with Kirby two points behind Bartels.
Things are not quite so close in the MC Painting and Contracting Super Stock class where Carpinteria veteran Ed Perry holds a commanding 36-point advantage over 2006 PASSCAR champion Mark Shackelford (Riverside). Perry, who is always a front runner, could start to put the wrapping on his first ever PAS championship with a good finish on Saturday night.
In the Modifieds, Corona’s Johnny Lathrop, a long time ago champion at the Orange Show Speedway and the long defunct Corona Raceway, has opened up some breathing room between himself and second place Kevin Busher in the standings. Like Perry, the veteran Lathrop is seeking his first ever PASSCAR title.
Moreno Valley’s Curtis Dietzsch is trying to win his second consecutive title in the Street Stocks, but the fight for the crown may go down to the last race of the year on November 22nd. Heading into Saturday’s race, the personable driver leads Santa Ana’s Joe Falduto by just eight points. Teenage sensation Tommy “Thunder” Malcolm (Corona), who is going to make the leap to Late Models in 2009, is third in the standings, 26 digits behind Dietzsch.
The Dwarf Cars will round out the show with their third appearance of 2008.
Saturday’s pre-fall five ring showdown in the dirt will include qualifying for the Late Models, and heats and main events for all of the divisions along with tons of bumps, scrapes and crashes. And, don’t forget the weekly PAS Dance Contest at intermission with prizes for the best dancers 12 and under.
