(Perris, CA, July 19, 2011)
After two weeks off, thrill a minute auto racing returns to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, July 23rd, with four divisions of PASSCAR Stock Car racing and round #2 of Auto Roller Derby. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 5:30. Tickets are only $9.00 for adults. Active military members with proper id, teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 will all get in for just $5.00. Children under 5 will be admitted free. Fans who live more than 100 miles from The PAS will be able to watch live on PAS video site (http://www.pasvideo.com/) for just $4.99. Those within the 100-mile blackout area will be able to watch a complete replay "On Demand" a few days after the event.
The crowd went wild the first time the track hosted Auto Roller Derby in the spring. Three car teams comprised of a "Jammer," "Blocker" and "Pusher" will run wild in an event that is more like an oval track demolition derby. The "Jammer" car has it battery disconnected and is pushed around the track by the pusher while the blocker tries to protect his teammates. The object is to be the first team to push your "Jammer" car to the checkered flag. The "Blocker" and "Pusher" cars can beat and bang on each other all they want, but if they intentionally hit another teams "Jammer" car, they will be disqualified.
"Auto Roller Derby was a lot more popular than we could have ever anticipated when we first staged it this spring," Perris promoter Don Kazarian said. "This time we are going to give the fans more of what they want with more laps. Thus, there will be a lot more crazy action including blocking, bumping and of course, crashing. It is like a high speed demolition derby and it is going to be a lot of fun."
The PASSCAR Stock Car classes will begin the second half of their 2011 campaign on Saturday as well. The Street Stock and Super Stock classes are providing the tightest races thus far in 2011. The Oil Twins Amsoil Street Stock class is having what is perhaps its best ever fight for a championship in the 16-year history of The PAS. The top six drivers are separated by a mere 12-points. Curtis Dietzsch, the only driver to win three PAS Street Stock titles, has come all the way back from missing the first main event of the year, to taking the point lead at the last race on June 25th. When the field starts racing on Saturday, Dietzsch will have a four-point lead over Murrieta's Stefan Davies in the championship hunt. Lurking just behind them in third is two-time champion Henry Wesolowski of Temecula. The veteran racer is only nine points behind Dietzsch. One point behind Wesolowski in fourth is Perris teenager Dalton Everhart. One point behind Dalton is his father, "Big Jake" Everhart and another point back is Michael Laney of Torrance who won the season opening race.
Chad Burns, the two-time and defending Super Stock champion from Mira Loma, holds a slender six-point lead over Imperial Beach's Joseph Altig in the Super Stock standings. Burns has one the last two main events in the Charles Hill owned #11X Camaro.
Alan Updyke, is well on his way to his third straight PAS Modified championship and his fourth overall PAS title. The Tustin based racer has won all four main events in 2011 and has built up a commanding 45-point lead over El Cajon's Dwayne Dalton, who is contesting his first full season of racing on the Riverside County clay oval. In the Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks Hemet's Keith Wood has a sizable lead over Moreno Valley's Stephanie Herbage. Herbage, who won the season opening main, trails Wood by 41-points. Wood finished second to defending champion Steven "Bam Bam" Fangmeyer in the last race on June 25th.
K&N Filters will donate gift certificates of $100.00, $50.00 and $25.00 to the top three finishers in the four PASSCAR sanctioned main events. The driver who passes the most cars on the Street Stock main will get a $50.00 Oil Twins Dominator gift certificate and the car that passes the most in the Factory Stock main will get a $25.00 Oil Twins Dominator gift certificate. Each of those drivers will get an automatic entry into the Oil Twins Challenge on October 29th.
If the Street Stocks, Super Stocks or Modifieds have fields of 24 cars, the main event winner of the class (s) will take home $1,000.00. All PASSCAR purses are posted on the Perris Auto Speedway web site at: http://www.perrisautospeedway.com/purse.html
Saturday's door handle to door handle night of racing will include heat races and main events for all classes.
