ROAD RACING RETURNS TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY!

(Perris, CA, May 1, 2012) For the first time in nine years, road racing will return to Perris Auto Speedway when the Riverside County track hosts the Cinco de Mayo Road Race for the Oil Twins Amsoil Street Stocks and the Pick-A-Part American Factory Stocks this Saturday night, May 5th. In addition, the popular PASSCAR Modifieds will be racing on the half-mile clay oval. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:00.

The road course will see the drivers come down the front straight away and drive into turn one like normal. However, when they come off turn two instead of going down the back straight away, they will make a left hand turn into the infield where they will face a challenging set of twists and turns. They will re-enter the oval track in turn three and come back onto the front straight like normal to complete a lap.

"The road racing was a lot of fun for the drivers and fans when we did it before," promoter Don Kazarian said. "It is a lot of extra work getting the track ready for this exciting race, but it will be worthwhile as it promises to be a very entertaining show."

Saturday's race will be the third race of the year for all of the competing classes.

Heading into the event, veteran Brian Tully of Fallbrook, who has been racing on the Southern California short tracks since the days of Ascot, the Corona Raceway and Speedway 605, leads the way in the Oil Twins Amsoil Championship Street Stock point standings. Corona teenager Mike Malcolm is just six points behind Tully. Yucaipa's Alan Grubel is third only 14 points behind he leader. Hemet's Tim "Shaggy" Shadduck, who is one digit behind Grubel, and Riverside's Shaun Estes round out the top five.

There is a chance that Pedro "El Pequeno Diablo" Garcia, the Mexican Dirt Track Street Stock Champion from Chihuahua, may be making his first ever start in the USA on Saturday.

Popular Steven "Bam Bam" Fangmeyer, who resides in Corona, heads the points in the Pick-A-Part American Factory Stocks, but that is all going to change on Saturday. The 2010 champion has a prior engagement and will be forced to miss the race. That will leave Fangmeyer's teammate Mike Burks of Nuevo as the top point driver on hand. Burks goes into Saturday only 10 points behind Fangmeyer. Riverside's Dave Vrett and brothers Tom & Jeff Gillum, who reside in Riverside & Hemet respectively, are ranked third, fourth and fifth.

The PASSCAR Modifieds will round out Saturday's program racing as usual on the famous half-mile clay oval. Another driver with a history that goes back to Ascot, Anaheim's John Crow, leads the championship chase as they take to the track for the third time in 2012. Riverside's Dave Clark enters Saturday's battle 7-points behind the leader. Four-time champion Alan Updyke of Tustin, who had a rare DNF at the last race is, third with El Cajon's Dwayne Dalton and Anthony Merritt of Hemet completing the top five.

Media, attached to this release is a photo of Nuevo's Mike Burks who won the season opening main event for the Factory Stocks and who is currently second in points. Please feel free to use the photo and it used, please give photo credit to Doug Allen.

Tickets will be $12.00 for adults. Active military members with proper id, teens age 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 get in for just $5.00. Children 5 and under get in for free.

The entire 2012 PAS schedule is listed at the end of this release.
