U.S. SPEEDWAY MOTORCYCLE LONGTRACK CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY!
(Perris, CA, July 23, 2013) For the first time since legendary Ascot Park in Gardena closed in 1990, the American Motorcycle Association Speedway Motorcycle Longtrack Championship will return to Southern California this Saturday night, July 27th, at Perris Auto Speedway. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00.

Saturday’s race, which will be run on the inner quarter-mile oval of the famous Riverside County racing facility, will be the only motorcycle race at the track in 2013 and the first two wheeled competition since 2010.

Among the field of stars for Saturday’s race are two youngsters who competed last week in Europe. Gino Manzares, a 19-year-old from Corona who was part of the United States World Team Cup squad that raced last Monday at King’s Lynn, England and last Thursday at Prague in the Czech Republic and 16-year-old “Mad” Max Ruml of Huntington Beach, who raced in the prestigious Golden Hammer meeting last Tuesday at Wolverhampton, England.

“These two talented teenagers are at the start of careers that can go a long way in Speedway,” Perris announcer Scott Daloisio said on Monday. “Their competition at the international level at this stage of their careers shows the potential they have. Gino was competing against some of the best riders in the sport in the world team cup last week. Max, taking second place at the Costa Mesa qualifier last month against a field of veteran riders, was amazing. Nobody predicted that. There are a bunch of talented kids coming up just like them and the future looks very bright for American Speeday.”

Another of the favorites for Saturday’s affair will be 54-year-old “Fast” Eddie Castro of Ojai. Named Grand Marshal of the event, the racing grandfather won the main last Friday night with a daring outside pass at Pirate Speedway in San Bernardino.

The National Championship portion of Saturday’s show will feature a whopping $6,000.00 purse and will consist of a series of point paying 3-lap heat races, a 4-lap last chance race and the 4-lap championship final. The winner of that final will be crowned United States National Speedway Longtrack Champion and will take home the lion’s share of the purse.

Race sponsorships are still available for the event. Heat races go for $100.00 per event and come with two free tickets. The Last Chance Race is available for $250.00 and includes four free tickets and the championship main event is available for $500.00 and includes six free tickets. In addition sponsor will have their name over the corresponding heat on the scorecard and read over the track P.A..

In addition to the field of top flight stars racing for the title of 2013 U.S. Longtrack Champion on Saturday, there will be a field of Support Class riders and the wild Speedway Sidecars, too.

“The sidecars are crazy,” Perris promoter Don Kazarian mused. “They have been here at other Speedway shows we have run at The PAS and the crowd loved them.”

“We are hoping for a big night on the track and in the grandstands,” Kazarian continued. “We would like to make this an annual event at The PAS as it adds to our list of prestigious races. Speedway is a very electrifying sport and this is a major, major event. It should make for a very exciting race for the hardcore Speedway fans and the competitors, too. We want to thank Steve Evans and Chris Ackerman for all of their hard work in putting this sensational event together.”

Another Speedway tradition will be Johnny Griffitts singing the National Anthem before the races. A decorated Vietnam veteran, Johnny rode the only Harley-Davidson Speedway Motorcycle on the Southern California circuit in the 1980’s.

“When Johnny Griffitts was riding that Harley in the 1980’s, he was one of the biggest stars in Southern California,” Daloisio said with a smile. “He would start the show by singing the National Anthem and then would ride that Harley Speedway bike. Everybody loved him then and they still do today. It will be an honor for us to have Johnny sing the National Anthem at this big event.”

Advance tickets to for the 2013 United States Speedway Longtrack Championship will be available from the track box office on the night of the race or they may be ordered in advance at http://pas.tix.com/Event.aspx?EventCode=544027 or by calling (800) 595-4849.
