SPORTSMAN 1450 TRUCK RULES

1.) VEHICLE:
a. Must be built utilizing a Factory steel truck cab and retain factory frame as manufactured. The truck must have working doors with factory-type hinges. 
The cab of the race vehicle must be made of material “As delivered” by the manufacturer that originally produced the vehicle. This includes, but not limited to, the roof and sides of the cab, which must be one piece “As delivered” by manufacturer. 

b. Fiberglass cabs are not allowed. Sectioned, removable or multiple cabs are not allowed. 

c. The firewall, rear wall, and floor of cab may be modified to allow room for the drive train, seats or suspension components, but must be reconstructed in metal. 

d. Material may be removed from inside of cab to allow room for the roll cage, but may not be removed to the extent that it causes the cab to become multiple pieces, or renders the cab removable. 

e. The cab must remain attached to the vehicle in the fashion it was “delivered. Windshield is optional. 

2.) WORKING DOORS: 
a. The doors of the race vehicle must be made of material “as delivered” by manufacturer that originally produced the vehicle. This includes, but is not limited to the entire door shell. 

b. The door must attach and function on the factory hinges and latch “as delivered” from the manufacturer. 

c. The door must have the inside and out side handles, and be able to be opened from inside and outside of the vehicle. 

d. Material may be removed inside of the door to make the roll cage, but must not interfere with the factory door hinges or door mechanisms. 

e. Door internals may be removed, such as windows, regulators and window tracks. They are not required for the door to be legal. 

3. BODY PANELS:
Vehicle must start the race with all body panels, front fenders, hood, rear fenders, cab and doors. 

4.) DRIVETRAIN: 
a. Engine is limited to 4, 6 and 8 cylinders. 
b. Turbo Charge will be allowed on 4-6 cylinders only 
c. Transmission and rear end are open with no limitations. 

5.) SUSPENSION: 
Suspension is open with no limitations.

6.) Fuel:
Any of the following commercially available gasoline may be used:
a. Service station type pump fuel
b. Racing gasoline as manufactured
c. No alcohol or nitro methane is allowed. 
d. Fuel additives may be used.

7.) Fuel Cells:
Fuel cells are mandatory in all classes. All fuel cells must be securely mounted. Filled from and vented to the outside of the vehicle. No G.I. cans are allowed. 

8.) Fuel Lines, Vents and Caps:
Fuel filler lines and caps must be mounted in a location where they can not be knocked open or off during a race. Fuel breather must have a check valve. All fuel fillers must be surrounded at the outer extremity with a splash shield. A body panel is acceptable as a splash shield. All fuel lines must have hose clamps.

9.) Ignition:
Each vehicle must have a positive action on-off switch in good working order. The switch must be located within easy reach of the driver and labeled “Ignition Switch” on – off.

10.) Battery:
Batteries must be securely mounted with metal to metal tie downs. All wet cell batteries must be full enclosed including the sides and bottom. Batteries that are not covered but located in the driver’s compartment are not acceptable. Batteries will be considered in the driver’s compartment if there is no fire wall between it and the driver.

11.) Roll Cages:
All vehicles in competition must be equipped with a roll cage. Minimum design and tubing size based on seamless mild steel or 4130 chromoly for roll cage structures are as follows:

Cages must be securely mounted to the body and frame, braced and gusseted at all connections. Body or cab mounted cages must not be affected by direct welding but must be attached by and bolted through the use doubler plates on each side with a minimum thickness of .187”. Bolts that are used shall be at least .375” diameter SAE Grade 8 or equivalent. Ends must be located to a body or frame supporting maximum impact. 

12.) Safety Harness:
All vehicles must have heavy duty type five point fast release (no push button) seat belt and shoulder harness with metal to metal buckles and connectors for each occupant. The single anti-submarine strap of the five point system shall be attached to the floor structure as close to the front as practical so that it will exert maximum restraint to the upward movement to the belt and harness. No “Y” type shoulder harnesses are allowed. All belts must show manufacturer’s name, month and year. All belts must be changed after three year of date. There must be two “D” rings per shoulder harness. All belt hardware must be safety tied or cotter keyed.

13.) Safety Nets:
All vehicles must have safety nets. Netting must be installed on the inside of the roll cage.

14.) Seating:
All seats must be properly reinforced and securely mounted.

15.) Driver’s Compartment:
Driver and or co-driver must be able to enter and exit the driving compartment unassisted with ease with the vehicle in any position. The driver’s compartment must be separated by firewalls or bulkheads from any acids or fuels. All vehicles must have operable door locks and if the nets are fastened to the door then a secondary latch must be installed.

16.) Helmets
Helmets must be approved by one of the following; Snell M2000 / SA2000 / M2005 / SA 2005 DOT / ECE 22-05 / BSI sticker attached. Straps must have 
D-ring fasteners only. No straps or Velcro will be permitted. The interior and exterior of the helmet must be free of defects.

17.) Protective Clothing:
Fire suits are mandatory. They must cover from the neck to the ankles. One piece suits only with no holes.
