Street Stock Rules 2008

1. COMPETING MODELS

a) All cars must be 1964 or newer full-size or intermediate American made passenger cars with a stock wheelbase in stock location. No jeeps, station wagons, or commercial vehicles allowed. The word “stock” means as originally factory produced for that year, make and model: except for modifications as allowed in the following rules.

b) Powertrain arrangement must remain as originally produced. No front wheel drive bodies on rear wheel drive cars, etc.

c) NO FRONT WHEEL DRIVE MODELS ALLOWED.

d) Wheelbase must remain stock. 1” variation will be allowed on one side only.

e) Minimum weight of 3400 lbs. with driver at any time. All ballast weight added to car must be mounted in a safe and secure manner. All mounting subject to strict inspection.

f) All ballast weight must be painted white and must have a car number on each weight.

g) No buckshot or wheel weights allowed.

h) Ballast weights will be non-removable and subject to safety tech approval.

i) All weight that falls off car during a race will be fined $10.00 a pound. NO EXCEPTIONS.

2. ENGINES

a) 360 CI maximum. Hot or cold. V8 no big blocks.

b) Engine must be in stock location on stock style steel motor mounts.

c) Engine must have tow chains connected to frame if motor is rubber mounted.

d) Engine and body must be from the same manufacturer: GM to GM, Ford to Ford, Mopar to Mopar.

e) All internal parts will be stock items including, but not limited to, stock crankshafts, rods, heads, stock stroke, etc. No modifications.

f) Maximum engine compression will not exceed 160 lbs. Pump up compression hot or cold. If you are over you are disqualified!

g) Flattop or dish-top pistons required, NO portion of piston will be above the deck of the block. No racing pistons. No modifications. Must be stock style.

h) Intake: Any CAST intake manifold UNTOUCHED … absolutely no grinding.

i) Cylinder heads must be stock, straight plug design only on small block Chevrolet. No porting, polishing, or any other modification permitted. Screw in studs and guide plates permitted poly locks are ok. Any part modified to enhance performance will result in immediate disqualification or any parts in question. Vortex or 202 Heads are allowed.

j) Camshaft hydraulic cam only. Maximum .485” lift, measured at valve. No roller or mushroom lifters permitted.

k) Stock ignition only. No Mallory MSD style distributors, dual point or magnetos, etc., no spark advance boxes. No computers or after market distributors.

l) Engine must be centered between frame rails and will not be moved back or down in chassis (SIMPLY NO OFFSET OR SETBACK OF ANY KIND).

m) All cars must have two-throttle return spring’s mandatory.

n) Stock 1.25 valve springs 110 Max. seat pressure. 1.5 stamped steel rockers only. No roller rockers, no roller tip rockers.

o) Oil Pan: Must have a 1 – inch inspection hole for rod and crank inspection. Be prepared to drop pan if hole is not accessible.

3. CARBURETOR

a) Must be a 2-barrel carburetor Holley #4412. No modifications must fit tech gauge.

b) Choke butterfly or horn may not be removed; different jets and power valve may be used.

c) Maximum 1.25” adapter will not be tapered or bowl shaped.

d) Standard size air cleaners only. Maximum 3” by 14”. Air deflector allowed on front ½ of air filter only. Air cleaner must be under hood. No air cleaner through hood scoop. Rear open only. No open top air filters.

e) A metal air cleaner top must be used on all carburetors to act as a flame arrestor. 3 or 4 inch air cleaners allowed and must fit under stock hood.

4. COOLING SYSTEM

a) Radiators must be in stock location and appear stock.

b) Radiators can be changed, but must fit original basic mounting area.

c) Fan shroud mandatory. Must be tech approved.

d) NO FIBERGLASS FLEX ALUMINUM or FIBERGLASS FANS ALLOWED. Steel only.

e) Fan mandatory, bolted on water pump in stock location. Fan must be in shroud.

5. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

a) Batteries in driver’s compartment must be completely enclosed and secured. SUBJECT TO TECH APPROVAL.

b) All cars will start under their own power. NO PUSH STARTING CARS.

c) All switches will be clearly marked and accessible to the driver while strapped in, and from outside the car.

6. BODIES

a) Bodies must be complete and stock. All trim and glass must be removed.

b) All exterior body parts will be of factory production steel, except door panels, which may be fabricated of no less than 16-gauge steel. Original bodylines must be maintained on fabricated panels. Grills, headlight, and taillight covers are required at the beginning of each race meet. Car can run only the remainder of the race minus body panels. After market nose and tail covers ok. Fiberglass hood OK. Must look stock.

c) Hood and deck lid pins required. Minimum of two (2) across the front hood and two (2) across rear of deck lid.

d) NO SPOILERS OR GROUND EFFECTS OF ANY FORM PERMITTED. STOCK SPOILERS ALLOWED.

e) Full stock floorboards and firewall required. All holes to be covered by sheet metal welded or riveted in place.

f) All upholstery must be removed.

g) Core support and front wheel wells may be removed. (If front inner wheel well is steel and is not removed, a 6” hole in each wheel well is required to aid firemen in extinguishing fires.

h) Hood, doors, roof and deck may be skinned. Must look stock.

i) Dash may be removed to front firewall.

j) Mass jacket may be removed from steering column. Quick release wheel OK.

k) No roof modifications allowed. Must have A-post, B- post, and C- post.

l) Inside rear quarter panel may be removed.

m) NO BOLTED HOOD OR DECK LIDS.

n) Fender wells may have a 3” to 5” clearance. (Must be equal at all 4 wheels).

o) Trunk and hood must be fastened with pins and keepers. A 1” or larger body washer must be used around pins.

p) NO SHARP, PROTRUDING EDGES ALLOWED. NO scrub rails.

7. FUEL SYSTEM

a) Fuel pump must be in stock location. No cutting of frame for any reason.

b) NO COOL CANS ALLOWED.

c) NO GLASS OR PLASTIC FUEL FILTERS ALLOWED.

d) Gas shall not be blended with alcohol, ethers, or other oxygenates. Gas shall be understood to mean automotive gasoline as defined by ASTRID-4. Race gas OK.

e) FUEL CELLS MANDATORY. Fuel cell must be centered between frame rails in trunk area. Fuel cell must be totally enclosed in an 18 gauge steel container and mounted with TWO (2) 1/8” by 1” STEEL STRAPS BOTH LENGTHWISE AND CROSSWISE. Bottom of cell center of axle or higher.  No hanging cells. Must be tech approved.

f) Fill spout to be located inside trunk. Full firewall between driver’s compartment and trunk area.

g) MAXIMUM fuel cell capacity: 22 gallons.

h) NO ELECTRIC FUEL PUMPS PERMITTED.

i) It is recommended that fuel line not be run through driver’s compartment. Any line passing through driver’s compartment will be neoprene hose inside steel tubing, and will be subject to tech approval.

j) NITROUS OXIDE PROHIBITED!!

k) Turnover valve mandatory.

8. BUMPERS

a) Bumpers may be changed to any OEM passenger car bumper. Must be tech approved.

b) Front and rear bumpers must be fastened to fenders and quarter panels with additional metal plates to prevent hooking of bumpers. Carriage bolts only.

c) A radiator protector/front hoop, 2/3 the height of the uprights of the roll cage, but must follow the frame rails, 1 ½” OD maximum.

d) Bumper may be round tubing with 90-degree ends under bumper covers. No square tubing.

9. GLASS

a) A windshield screen with center support mandatory. Straps in front of driver (2 1/8” X 1” centered 6” to 8” apart).

b) Heavy screen of expanded metal is recommended. (1/2” square mesh minimum, 1” maximum). Welded wire from A-post to A-post must be tech approved.

c) All other windows will be removed. Rear windows and quarter windows are not allowed.

d) No mirrors allowed.

e) Driver’s window net mandatory. Attached top and bottom, release at top front.

10. FRAMES

a) Minimum ground clearance of 4” at frame rails, cross-member, and oil pan at all times.

b) No mixing sub frames. Must be stock for car.

c) No cutting or modifying to frame for any reason.

11. SUSPENSION

a) Chassis and suspension remain stock, unaltered with only OEM equivalent parts. b) NO REINFORCING of any chassis or moving suspension parts.

c) Stock upper and lower control arms only, with no modifications allowed. Control arm mounting may NOT be modified in any way. Ball joints may be moved plus or minus 1” to correct caster and camber.

d) Independent front suspension. NO SOLID FRONT AXLES ALLOWED.

e) All springs must be STOCK and in original location.

f) NO HEIM JOINTS ALLOWED ON ANY CHASSIS OR SUSPENSION PART.

g) NO ADJSTABLE SPRING SPACERS ALLOWED. No spacers in coil springs must be under or on top of spring. Must be welded.

h) Lowering blocks are permitted.

i) All other suspension and components must be original design and original for the body used.

j) NO COIL SPRING BUCKETS IN FRAME RAILS on cars with leaf spring rear-ends, (Camaro, Nova, Chrysler, etc.).

k) Shocks must be stock. Gas OK. Ho Heim racing shocks. Stock mounting position.

l) Full floating rear-ends strongly recommended. Rear disc brakes allowed. No exotic devices, i.e. Detroit lockers, Gold track etc… not quick changes allowed.

12. STEERING

a) Steering must be OEM stock.

b) Doubler OK.

c) After market pumps OK.

d) Steering wheel pad mandatory.

13. TRANSMISSIONS AND REAR-ENDS

a) Transmission must remain stock and in stock location.

b) Transmission may have aftermarket trans cooler.

c) Rear-end must remain in stock location with stock suspension.

d) Manual transmissions OK, stock steel clutch and flywheel only (un-altered).

e) Automatics must have torque converters, no direct drive transmissions.

f) No Locked, posi-traction, limited slip differentials permitted. No quick changes or aluminum. Spooled only.

g) Rear-ends must be centered in car. May be swapped for Ford 9” or 8”.

h) Cars running clutch and flywheel must run approved steel scatter shield (360 degrees).

i) All drivelines must have two (2) steel safety straps.

14. WHEELS AND TIRES

a) NO MUD AND SNOW GRIP TIRES ALLOWED.

b) Maximum of 8” tread width, 8” steel wheels maximum. No bead locks.

c) 5/8” studs required on all four (4) wheels.

d) Any 8” or less DOT tire. No race tires, no grooving, no recaps. All tires subject to

approval by track manager.  Must fit tech gauge.

e) Bead lock allowed on the right rear only.

15. BRAKES

a) Stock, 4 wheel hydraulic brakes required.

b) ADJUSTABLE PROPORTIONING VALVE ALLOWED.

d) Stock pedal assembly and cylinder assembly.

16. ROLL BARS

a) Full NASCAR type roll cage required, subject to tech approval. Bars must be a minimum of 1 ½” OD, .090” wall thickness.

b) NO GALVANIZED, ALUMINUM, OR EXHAUST TUBING ALLOWED.

c) Minimum of three (3) door bars on right side, with minimum or four (4) door bars on driver side door, no more than 7” spread between each door bar must have 1/8” doorplates from top door bar to bottom door and from rear down post to 5” in front of seat.

d) Rear kicker bars may extend to rear frame cross members.

e) Fuel cell protector mandatory, no more than the width of the frame rails.

f) Main roll cage uprights must be fastened to floor of unibody cars with a minimum 3/16” thick plate, top and bottom, at all four (4) corners. Plate must be minimum 4” square, with four (4) 3/8” grade 8 bolts at each location.

g) NO GRINDING OF WELDS.

h) Padding must be used at any point where driver contact might occur.

17. EXHAUST SYSTEMS

a) Stock manifolds mandatory, cast iron only. No header style. No internal modifications allowed.

b) Maximum ID on any exhaust system 2 ½”.

c) No internal modification allowed to exhaust manifolds.

d) Mufflers mandatory. Maximum decibel reading of 90 dB at 100 feet. Any car surpassing the maximum noise level will not be allowed to compete.

e) Exhaust must extend past driver’s compartment.

f) No modifying of floor pan or firewall or frame to accept exhaust system.

18. NUMBERS (IDENTITY)

a) For proper scoring, numbers must be easily read from the grandstand. b) Car numbers must be in CONTRASTING COLOR and must be on both doors and on top, also front and rear for staging.

c) Numbers on doors and top are to be a minimum of 20” high by 4” wide.

d) Numbers on the front of the car must be 6” high and must be placed in driver side headlight area (must be clearly visible to staging person).

e) Numbers on the rear of the car must be 6” high and place near the right side corner.

f) Driver’s name is to appear on top over both doors in 3” high letters.

g) Numbers must be solid color, no neon, no gold or silver.

h) No three digits or letters will be accepted.

19. MISCELLANEOUS

a)       Radios: No radios allowed in the cars.

b)       Equipment will not be considered “legal” simply because it went through tech inspection unobserved or because a rule has not been written excluding it.

c)       No interior or exterior rear view mirrors allowed.

20. Seats and Safety Equipment

For all safety equipment it will be the sole responsibility of the driver, not Perris Auto Speedway, their agents/ officials or corporate officers to ensure that his/her safety equipment is correctly installed, maintained, and properly used. Please refer to manufacturer installation and usage guidelines and adhere to them.

A.   Seats

1)       Aluminum professionally built high back racing seat is mandatory. No plastics, etc.

2)       Must be securely bolted to mount assembly, or secured in a manner that is an integral part of the roll cage.

3)       A five-point safety harness with a quick release is mandatory.  3” wide lap belt, 2” or 3” shoulder harness and 2” sub strap. All belts will be attached to the roll cage in an approved manner, using minimum of 3/8” grade 8 bolts and safety cables. Subject to tech approval. It is the driver’s owner’s obligation to have belts re-certified or replaced every three- (3) years.

4)       Rear passenger seat must be removed.

5)       Padded headrest required.

B.      Window Nets

1)       Window net Mandatory, minimum 1 inch mesh with release at top front only.

2)       All window net releases must be the quick release seat belt type, with release located and facing the outside of the car.

3)       No string nets or close net off road type nets allowed.

C.      Helmets/Gloves/Suits/ Eye Protection

1)       Safety helmet must meet Snell 95 testing standards, bear proper identification, and have no signs of previous damage.

2)       Two (2) layer fire suit is Mandatory at all times. No flight suits allowed.

3)       Approved racing gloves Mandatory, no welding gloves, gardening gloves, etc.

4)       Approved racing shoes or leather shoes required. No nylon shoes permitted.

5)       Eye protection is mandatory, and must be in proper place at all times.

D.      Fire Extinguishers

1)       On board fire extinguisher (2lb) MANDATORY with quick release mechanism, within drivers reach while strapped in.

2)       All cars will be required to have in their pits a minimum of one 5 pound, Halon or dry chemical fire extinguisher. This is to be visible to tech officials, and all crewmembers must be aware of its location, and knowledgeable in the use of the fire extinguisher. Sharing a fire extinguisher between two pit areas is permissible as long as it is Accessible to both, and both pits are aware of its location.

B.      Car and driver will be required to make safety rule violations comply, PRIOR to racing any event.

21.   INSPECTIONS

a)       All cars are subject to inspection by Perris Auto Speedway at any time and in any manner determined by track officials. All decisions regarding the timing and manner of inspections, as well as which cars will be inspected is final.

b)       A competitor must take whatever steps requested by a track official, including tear down of a car, to facilitate inspection of the car at any time.

c)       Only those persons approved by track officials may be admitted into the inspection area.

d)       Perris Auto Speedway has the right to confiscate any part and/or equipment, which fail to meet applicable Perris Auto Speedway specifications during an event.

e)       Track officials mandate inspection after the event; if a car that has competed in the event is taken from the tech area without permission of a track official, the car and driver will be disqualified.

f)        Any member who fails to tear down a car for inspection when requested to do so by the track officials, a fine and/or loss of championship points and /or definite suspension from Perris Auto Speedway will result.

22. DISCLAIMER

The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. The rules shall govern all entrants. NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND/OR REGULATIONS. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official.

The race director shall be empowered to permit deviations from any of the specifications, herein, or impose any further restriction, that in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS. Any interpretation or deviations of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. * There will be a $20.00 entry fee per car per race. Money will be collected at pill pick.

WE INTEND FOR ALL CARS TO BE COMPETING WITH EACH OTHER. IF YOU DO SOMETHING TO YOUR CAR THAT THESE RULES HAVE OVERLOOKED THAT WE FEEL GIVES YOU AN EDGE OVER THE OTHER COMPETITORS, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO CHANGE YOUR CAR.
