LKQ
PICK YOUR PART PRESENTS NIGHT OF
DESTRUCTION AND FAMILY FUN SATURDAY AT
PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY!
By Scott Daloisio
(Perris, CA, May 16, 2017)
Perris Auto Speedway is geared up for
another night of family fun and racing
excitement this Saturday, May 20th, when
LKQ Pick Your Part Presents “The Night of
Destruction #3” featuring wild Figure 8
racing, a crazy Figure 8 Trailer race,
crowd pleasing Demo Cross, Formula-X
Autocross & CrossKart racing and Spectator
races. Spectator gates for the night of
thrills and spills will open at 5:00 PM
and the destruction will begin at 7:00.
The biggest
surprise of the season thus far is Yucaipa
25-year old Jesse Gordon. In his first
ever Night of Destruction in March, he got
to the track late and started at the back
in both the Figure 8 and Demo Cross main
events. He shocked everyone when he placed
second in the Figure 8’s and won in Demo
Cross! The other competitors may have
thought the new guy’s prowess was a fluke,
but last month, he proved it was anything,
but a fluke. When Gordon came back for the
second race in April he again entered the
Figure 8 and Demo Cross races. He also
entered the Figure 8 Trailer race for the
first time. He ended up winning the Figure
8 race and his inaugural Figure 8 Trailer
race as well. And, he was leading the Demo
Cross main event when he was slowed by a
flat tire and had to settle for fourth.
Yucaipa’s
Jesse Gordon in the “Bat Mobile” and
Norco’s Earl Cox, the 2015 PAS Figure 8
champion, race side by side last month.
They are tied for the lead in the Figure 8
class heading into this Saturday’s race.

“A lot of
driver’s noses are getting out of joint,”
promoter Don Kazarian laughed on Monday.
“We have a new guy who is fast becoming
the new sheriff in town and that is
rubbing some of his competition the wrong.
It is pretty funny. Things got intense
last month and they are going to again on
Saturday. The fans love it and so do we.”
Kazarian
continued about the new star at Night of
Destruction.
“There is a
stereotype image of drivers who compete in
these events,” Kazarian said. You know,
older guys who drive tow trucks or work in
salvage yards with dirt caked under their
fingernails. A lot of people still think
all of the drivers are like that, but
times have changed and nowhere is that
more evident than Jesse Gordon. He is a
handsome 25-year-old who is a respiratory
therapist at Kaiser Permanente in
Riverside. That did not happen much in the
old days. And, there are not a whole lot
of respiratory therapists competing in
Nights of Destruction events these days
either. Safe to say he may be the only
one.”
As well as his
prowess on the track, Gordon became a hero
to all the kids in the stands when he
showed up at the last race with large
Batman decals decorating each side of his
car. Quickly dubbed the “Bat Mobile,”
Gordon and the car became big heroes for
the younger set.
Heading into
Saturday’s show at the famous Riverside
County racing facility, Gordon leads the
Demo Cross point standings. He also leads
the overall “Night of Destruction Iron
Man” standings which combines all three
classes. In the Figure 8 class he is tied
with 2015 track champion Earl Cox of Norco
for the lead. The only class he is not
leading is the Figure 8 Trailer race as he
did not contest that event at the first
race of the season in March.

The Formula X
and Autocross Karts and Spectator racing
will also be a part of the show on
Saturday. Skateboarding legend Bucky Lasek
and Toni Ahokas of Finland have won the
first two Formula X main events of the
year. Spectator racing features two street
legal cars on the track at one time. One
starts in the middle of the front straight
and one starts in the middle of the back
straight (they are separated so they do
not have to worry about crashing into each
other). The first car to complete two laps
moves on in the competition. Much like
drag racing, the field gets whittled down
to two cars and a winner takes all finale.
Before the
racing starts on Saturday, fans will have
a chance to get an up-close look at the
cars, talk to the drivers, take photos and
get autographs at the on track photo and
autograph session that begins at 5:15.
Adult tickets
for Saturday’s Night of Destruction are
$15.00. Active military members with
proper id, teens 13-18 with their school
id and kids 6-12 get in for $5.00.
Children 5 and under are free. Parking on
the fairgrounds is $8.00.
Advanced
tickets for Saturday’s event are available
24-hours a day by calling 1-800-595-4849
or online at
http://pas.tix.com/Event.aspx?EventCode=922994.
For those who do not wish to purchase
