THE LAST 2017 LKQ PICK YOUR PART NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION THIS SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY!
By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, August 27, 2017) This Saturday night, Perris Auto Speedway, “The Home of the Craziest Show on Dirt,” will host the final 2017 LKQ Pick Your Part Night of Destruction, the wild program will include Figure 8 racing, a Figure 8 Trailer race, Demo Cross, Spectator racing and Formula X. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the wild racing will begin at 7:00.

Early arriving fans can get an up-close look at the cars, meet the drivers and get autographs at the on-track autograph and photo session that will begin at 5:15.

Saturday’s show will feature the deciding races for the 2017 Figure 8 and Figure 8 Trailer championships. Amazingly, popular veteran Earl Cox of Norco and rookie Jesse Gordon of Beaumont come into the race tied for the Figure 8-point lead. Cox’s brother Kevin, who calls Foothill Ranch home, is the only other driver with a mathematical shot at winning the Figure 8 championship as he is only 9-points behind the lead duo. Should both his brother and Gordon slip, which is doubtful, he is poised and ready to take the lead and the championship trophy.

“Earl Cox won The PAS Figure 8 Championship in 2015 and he should have won it again last year, but he had to miss a race to attend a wedding,” said promoter Don Kazarian. “Had he not missed that race, he would have been champion last year as well. That made him the odds-on favorite to win the title this year. Then Jesse Gordon entered the season as a rookie and has shocked everyone. He picked it up right away and comes in tied with veteran Earl for the point lead going into the final night of Figure 8 racing in 2017. I expect a 20-lap war between these two. They are such nice guys. After Saturday’s race, I will be very happy for one of them and very sad for the other.”

Jesse Gordon, a respiratory therapist from Banning, is shown on the inside of Earl Cox, a hole driller from Norco. They come into to Saturday’s race tied for first in the Figure 8-point standings. Please give photo credit to Vane Ledgerwood.

The fight for the title in the Figure 8 Trailer class is not quite as tight, but four drivers have a mathematical chance going into Saturday’s race. Defending champ Ken McWilliams of Menifee holds a narrow 3-point advantage over Rob Multhaupt of Orange. Gordon and defending Night of Destruction “Iron Man” Champion David Holmes of Norco, are tied for third, but would be longshots to take the win as they are 18-points behind McWilliams.

Rounding out Saturday’s show will be Formula X and Spectator racing. Finland’s Toni Ahokas will head the field in Formula X. In the Spectator class, wily veteran “Wide Open” Wayne Williams of Tijuana, hopes to return to his winning ways.

“We hope to see a lot of fans come out for Saturday’s show,” Kazarian said with a smile. “This will be the last time they can see the full Night of Destruction until March of 2018. With the titles on the line, it should be one of, if not the, best nights of the year.”

The Democross and overall titles will not be decided until October 8th when there is a double header during the Southern California Fair.
