FANS
URGED TO BRING AMERICAN FLAGS TO
SATURDAY’S SPRINT CAR RACE AT PERRIS AUTO
SPEEDWAY!
By Scott
Daloisio
(Perris, CA, October 17, 2017)
This Saturday night, October
21st, the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars will
be getting their final Perris Auto
Speedway tune-up for November’s 22nd
Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals Presented
by All Coast Construction. For the show
that also includes the PAS Senior and
Young Gun Sprint Cars, track officials are
urging fans and race teams to bring
American flags for the pre-race
ceremonies. Spectator gates will open at
5:00 P.M. and the first race will start at
7:00.
The idea for
the fans and race teams to bring American
flags stemmed from an idea 2016 PAS/IMCA
Modified Champion Chuck Becker came up
with. Seeing what was going on in other
sports during the National Anthem, the
Yucaipa based driver made a suggestion to
have drivers in the first race at the
October 28th stock car race stand next to
their cars during the anthem. PAS
officials liked the idea and expanded on
it as well.
“Chuck
Becker’s idea got the ball rolling,”
promoter Don Kazarian said. “We liked the
thought and decided to expand on it. This
Saturday at the sprint car race and at the
October 28th stock car race, we are not
only having the drivers from the first
race standing next to their cars for the
National Anthem but, we are going to put
every driver and car at the track on the
front straight. We anticipate that all of
them will be sporting American flags and
we hope the fans do so as well. We
experience a tremendous show of patriotism
from our fans and teams every year for our
July 4th show and we expect the same the
next two Saturday nights. It is going to
be fun”
Concord’s
Damion Gardner holds a 94-point lead over
Garden Grove’s Brody Roa heading into
Saturday’s USAC/CRA race at Perris Auto
Speedway. Please give photo credit to Doug
Allen.
On the racing
side of the program, Saturday will be the
eighth USAC/CRA race at the track this
year. Three different drivers - Damion
Gardner of Concord, R.J. Johnson of
Laveen, Arizona and Richard Vander Weerd
of Visalia - have posted the wins. Gardner
and Johnson have three wins apiece. Vander
Weerd won the other USAC/CRA race at the
track in March.
Gardner, who
is seeking his fifth straight USAC/CRA
title and sixth overall, will bring a
94-point lead over Garden Grove’s Brody
Roa into Saturday’s show. Anaheim’s Jake
Swanson is third and is only two points
behind Roa. Temecula’s Mike Spencer and
Austin Williams of Yorba Linda round out
the top five.
The PAS Senior
and Young Gun Sprints will complete their
2017 seasons on Saturday. Canyon County
racer Richard McCormick and Acton college
student Hannah Mayhew already have one
hand on the championship trophy in their
respective classes heading into Saturday.
McCormick is 33-points ahead of Palmdale’s
Rick Hendrix in the Seniors and Mayhew
holds a 19-point advantage over West
Covina’s Joel Rayborne in the Young Guns.
