OFF ROAD RACING STAR BRADLEY MORRIS IN PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY IMCA MODIFIEDS! By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, February 7, 2018) When LKQ Pick Your Part presents the regular season opener for the PASSCAR Stock Car Series and IMCA Modifieds at Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday and Sunday, a lot of eyes will be focused on Off-Road racing star Bradley Morris and his #24 Modified. Eyes not only of the fans, but of the competition as well as Morris beat them to win the first race of the year in convincing style at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval four weeks ago. Since he stuffed his mother’s suburban through the washing machine and into the house when he was only a year old, Morris, now 20, has been around motorized vehicles. And, whether it be two wheels or four, he has raced everything that has been put in front of him. That includes oval track cars, motorcycles, mom’s suburban and, of course, off-road. Please give photo credit to Bobby Kimbrough. His first exposure to racing at Perris Auto Speedway came when he was only 8-years-old. He contested the short-lived off-road races promoted by the Dirt Alliance at The PAS. While his off-road career flourished from that point on, he was also interested in oval track racing and ventured to the Cory Kruseman Sprint Car Driving School. Impressed by what he saw, Kruseman encouraged Morris to pursue open-wheel racing. The teenager did that racing in the Chili Bowl in Tulsa, Oklahoma and also in Perris Auto Speedway’s “Young Gun Sprint Car Series.” However, those efforts came to a screeching halt when Morris suffered a broken neck in a bicycle accident and at his parents urging, he stayed away from open wheel-cars after that. Flash forward to 2017 when Morris tackled the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series contesting the Pro 2 and Pro 4 classes. The Romoland, California resident ended up fourth in the Pro 2 standings and was named “Rookie of the Year.” Even with that resume, it shocked many to see him score the convincing win at The PAS in January against one of, if not the, toughest modified fields to ever race at The PAS. “Being new to modifieds, it helped that I did not know how good the guy in second is,” he laughed. “When the race was over, people were telling me how good he is. We have learned some setup stuff from Steven Fangmeyer and Robbie Sanders, but we kind of wing it on our own on the setup. Me and a kid who has been with me since he was 18 (now 23). It ended up working well.” Morris continued on about how much he can take from other forms of racing into modifieds. “I have raced sprint cars, midgets, motorcycles, rc cars and off-road,” he said. “It is all seat time. Racing modifieds actually helps me more with off-road than off road does with modifieds. You can make up a lot of time in one lap when you race off-road as you have more straightaways and corners. On the oval track, if you mess up it can cost you two spots in one corner.” In addition to racing the modified and the Pro 2 in the Lucas Series, Morris will also contest his first desert race driving a trophy truck in the upcoming Mint 400. Morris wanted to thank sponsors K&N, Kicker Audio, Horizon Hobby, Swift Springs and Parker Pumper for making his effort in the IMCA Modified possible. In addition to the IMCA Modifieds, the PASSCAR Super Stocks, Street Stocks and American Factory Stocks will also be in action both days this weekend. Spectator gates will open at 2:00 P.M. each day with racing at 3:00. Prior to the Sunday race at 1:00 P.M., Chaplin Jim Spoonhower will be conducting a Sunday service in the grandstands for drivers, crews, fans and officials. Tickets for the February 10th and 11th races are $15.00 each day for adults. For active military members with proper id, teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12, it is just $5.00. Children 5 and under are free.
