CELEBRATE ST. PATRICK’S DAY WITH NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY! By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, March 13, 2018) It promises to be a wild St. Patrick’s Day this Saturday, March 17th, when LKQ Pick Your Part presents “Night of Destruction #1” at Perris Auto Speedway. The show will consist of crazy Figure 8 racing, a wild Figure 8 Trailer race, insane Democross and Formula-X Autocross & CrossKart racing. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 P.M. and the first race will start at 7:00. One of the favorites on Saturday will be Beaumont, California’s Jesse Gordon. Before last year, Gordon had never contested a single “Night of Destruction” event. By the end of the season, he was crowned Figure 8 Champion and the overall Night of Destruction “Ironman.” The latter is highly coveted as it combines all three classes (Figure 8, Figure 8 Trailer and Democross). In addition to his prowess in the driver’s seat, Gordon also endeared himself to fans by driving a converted modified that is now a Batmobile replica car. “All modifieds pretty much look the same,” Gordon told Dave Stall on the “Racer Radio Show” on a recent Sunday afternoon. “Me and my dad came up with this design. We wanted our car to be functional as a Figure 8 car, so we came up with the design. All the Figure 8 cars have billboards on the upper rear quarter panels. Instead of the square billboard style, we wanted to shape it like a wing. Like a shark fin. When we cut out the metal and painted the car black it looked like a Batmobile car, so we went with that theme. It has been working. A lot of kids and a lot of the adult fans enjoy it. I am glad I have some fans out there.” ​Jesse Gordon will begin defense of his 2017 championships when LKQ Pick Your Part presents “Night of Destruction #1” this Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway. Please give photo credit to Vane Ledgerwood. A respiratory therapist at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Riverside, Gordon has a very busy work schedule. Since the last race of 2017, what little free time the 25-year-old has had, has been spent in the garage getting the car ready for Saturday night. “It has been a busy off season working on the car,” Gordon told Stall. “At the last race of last season, it got destroyed. I have had to completely build it and I put a new engine in it. I am going for another championship this year.” Gordon is one of only a couple of handful of drivers who runs all three classes at the “Night of Destruction” and it keeps him and his crew more than busy on race night. “It is a serious challenge keeping the car alive and running all three classes in one night,” Gordon said. “It is the same car for all three classes. Democross is the most brutal so it is a serious challenge for myself and the crew each race night. My car is an old Barona modified that ran there back in 2016. It started out as a modified chassis. I set it up to go in both directions (turn in both directions) for the Figure 8. That was a bit of a challenge as they are not really meant to turn in both directions. But, we figured it out and it seems to be working pretty well.” Among Gordon’s main challengers on Saturday will be two-time Figure 8 champion Earl Cox of Norco, two-time Trailer Figure 8 champion Ken McWilliams of Menifee, past Figure 8 & Ironman champ Ryan Kennett of Nuevo and another former Ironman title holder, David Holmes of Norco. As well as the racing, it will also be one of the track’s “American Cancer Society Nights” and will benefit the “Up, Down N’ Dirty 4 A Cure Mud Run” at The PAS on July 14th. Drivers will pass through the grandstands at intermission collecting donations in their helmets from the fans. Fans are urged to arrive early for the 5:15 on track autograph and photo session. Adult tickets for Saturday are $15.00. Active military with proper id, teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 get in for just $5.00. Children 5 and under are free.
