PASSCAR STOCKS AND IMCA MODIFIEDS KICK OFF
PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY’S 23RD SEASON!
By Scott
Daloisio
(Perris, CA, April 9, 2018)
Finally, with a good weather forecast,
Perris Auto Speedway will kick off its
23rd regular-season with a quadruple
header show featuring the PASSCAR Super
Stocks, Street Stocks, American Factory
Stocks and the IMCA Modifieds this
Saturday, April 14th. Spectator gates will
open at 5:00 P.M.; with racing at 7:00.
While Saturday
is the official regular season opener, it
will be the fifth points race for the IMCA
Modifieds and the third points race for
the three classes in PASSCAR. Previous
point producing races were held on weekend
afternoons in January and February.
On the power
of a pair of second-place finishes in
February, Chula Vista’s Steve Worstell has
a 1-point lead over 2016 champion Mike
Lerwell in the Super Stocks. Lerwell, who
calls El Cajon home, and two-time class
champion Dennis Wooldridge of Riverside
won the first two main events of the year.
Cherry Valley’s Danny Webster is third in
points followed by Wooldridge and
Beaumont’s Danny Webster.
Longtime
Southern California racer Fred Estrada of
Riverside clips the turn four wall while
racing his PASSCAR Super Stock at Perris
Auto Speedway earlier this year. Please
give photo credit to Doug Allen.
In the Street
Stocks, four-time champion Luke Dodd of
Riverside holds a 10-point lead over
Rancho Palos Verdes driver Chris Leventis.
Going back to the start of 2017, Dodd has
amazingly won nine of the last 10 main
events. The only one he did not win was
last June when he blew his engine in hot
laps and had to drive a different car in
the race. After winning the season opener
this year on February 10th, Dodd started
12th in the main the next day and easily
drove his way to the front of the pack and
onto the victory. Temecula’s Blaine
Whitson, Casey MacDonald of Riverside and
Murrieta’s Stefan Davies rank third
through fifth in the Street Stock
championship standings.
Menifee’s Kris
Carnish won his first ever American
Factory Stock main event in February and
heads into Saturday’s race as the point
leader. El Cajon’s Todd Fassler is two
points out of the top spot. Second-year
driver Darren Veatch of Temecula is third
in the championship standings and rookie
Darren Myers of Buena Park is fourth. Mike
Burks of Nuevo and Ramona’s Jessica
Shaffer, last year’s Barona Speedway Pure
Stock “Rookie of the Year,” are tied for
fifth.
After four
races in the IMCA Modifieds, Winnemucca,
Nevada’s Cory Sample has a 9-point lead
over Hollister’s Andy Obertello. Young
off-road racer Bradley Morris of Romoland,
who won the season opener in January, is
third in the standings. Morris is followed
by 2016 IMCA track champion Chuck Becker
of Yucaipa and two-time track Super Stock
champ Terry Hershberger of Corona.
All cars will
run hot laps, heats and main events on
Saturday and if applicable, B Mains as
well.
Adult tickets
are $15.00. For active military members
with proper id, teens 13-18 with their
school id and kids 6-12, it is just $5.00.
Children 5 and under are free. Parking on
the fairgrounds is $8.00.
Advance
tickets for all PAS events, including this
Saturday, the July 4th Night of
Destruction and November’s 23rd Annual
Budweiser Oval Nationals presented by All
Coast Construction, are available 24 hours
a day online at
https://pas.tix.com/Schedule.aspx?OrgNum=7
or by calling 1-800-595-4849. For fans who
