PASSCAR STOCK CARS AND IMCA MODIFIEDS AT
PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY SATURDAY!
By Scott
Daloisio
(Perris, CA, June 25, 2018)
For the second time in the month of June,
the PASSCAR Stock Car Series, featuring
Street Stocks, Super Stocks, American
Factory Stocks, and the IMCA Modifieds
will be at Perris Auto Speedway this
Saturday night. It will mark the start of
the second half of the season for the cars
at the famous Riverside County half-mile
clay oval. Spectator gates will open at
5:00 P.M. and the first race will be at
7:00.
The battle for
supremacy in the Street Stocks continues
with Luke Dodd of Riverside and his
arch-rival Blaine Whitson of Temecula.
After the first five races of the year
Dodd, a four-time track champion, has a
six-point lead over Whitson in the
championship standings. Dodd has won three
of the first five races and Whitson has
captured the other two. At the last race,
Whitson was first to the checkered flag
and Dodd came home second. At the race
prior to that, it was the opposite with
Dodd snaring the winner’s trophy and
Whitson claiming the number two position.
Between the two of them, they only have
two finishes outside the top three all
year. Those finishes came when Whitson
placed 10th on February 11th and Dodd was
fifth on April 14th. Chris Leventis of
Rancho Palos Verdes is third in the
standings behind the lead duo.
Temecula’s
Blaine Whitson, who won the last PASSCAR
Street Stock main on June 9th, only trails
champion Luke Dodd by six-points in the
standings. Please give photo credit to
Doug Allen.
Cory Sample,
who lives in Winnemucca, Nevada and makes
the nearly 1,200-mile round trip to
Southern California to race at The PAS,
has a 31-point lead in the PAS/IMCA
Modified point standings. Sample, who
picked up his second PAS win at the last
race on June 2nd, has only finished out of
the top three one time in the first seven
races of the year. That came in May when
he was clobbered by another car and ended
up finishing 11th. In the other six-races
he has two wins, a couple of second place
finishes and a pair of thirds. Yucaipa’s
Chuck Becker is second in points with
Corona’s Terry Hershberger third.
Cory Sample
of Winnemucca, Nevada won his second PAS
IMCA Modified main event of 2018 on June
9th. Please give photo credit to Doug
Allen.
In the Super
Stocks, El Cajon’s Mike Lerwell continues
to lead the way as the season starts its
second half. Lerwell, who was the champion
of the class two years ago, has a 17-point
cushion over Beaumont’s Ricky Lee in the
championship standings. This far in 2018,
Lerwell has been head and shoulders over
the class with two wins, two-second place
finishes and a sixth-place outing. Chula
Vista veteran Steve Worstell is third and
only trails Lee by six points.
El Cajon’s
Mike Lerwell won his second PASSCAR Super
Stock main of 2018 on June 9th. Please
give photo credit to Bobby Kimbrough.
In the Factory
Stock class, Mike Burks of Nuevo, who
turned 59 earlier this month, won his
first ever main event after 12-years of
trying on June 9th. With the victory,
Burks closed to within five points of
leader Todd Fassler of El Cajon in the
standings. Menifee’s Kris Carnish and
Cameron Veatch of Temecula are third and
fourth and both are less than 10-points
behind Fassler thus making the Factory
Stocks the tightest points race at the
track in 2018.
It took Mike
Burks (right) 12-years, but he finally won
his first ever PASSCAR Factory Stock main
event on June 9th. Please give photo
credit to Doug Allen.
All cars will
contest heat races and main events on
Saturday.
