PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY OPENS 24TH SEASON THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!
By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, February 5, 2019) They say time flies when you are having fun. That adage certainly applies to Perris Auto Speedway. As hard as it is to believe, this Saturday night, February 9th, the famous Riverside County racing facility, which is located on the SoCal Fair and Event Center (Lake Perris Fairgrounds) will open its 24th consecutive season of racing with the PASSCAR Street Stocks, Super Stocks, American Factory Stocks and the IMCA Modifieds. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 P.M. with racing getting underway at 7:00.

In what is kind of a rarity in racing today, the track will be under the same promotional banner, Oval Entertainment, as it was when it first opened its doors on March 30th, 1996. Promoter Don Kazarian has been there since the day he and his father and brothers first put shovels into the ground to build the popular clay oval and he is very excited about the upcoming season.

“We are very excited about the 2019 season and think it will be one of the best in the history of the track,” the longtime promoter said. “As always, we will have nights for sprint cars, stock cars and, of course, our popular Nights of Destruction. There is a lot of talk and a lot of calls coming into the office from people who want to get into racing. We think we will see increased car counts across the board in 2019.”

One of the new cars in action on Saturday night will be the #98 IMCA Modified of Riverside’s Luke Dodd. The proprietor of Luke’s Transmissions in Rubidoux, Dodd has won more main events than any stock car driver in the track’s history. In addition to his main event wins, he has five Street Stock track championships. However, Saturday night will see him in a Modified at The PAS for the first time. As always, he will be in his #98 Street Stock as well and his team will be fielding a Street Stock for NASCAR pavement driver Kayla Eshleman of Fontana.

Among the foes expected to try to thwart Dodd’s efforts for a sixth Street Stock title will be longtime nemesis, Blaine Whitson of Temecula,, Chris Leventis of Rancho Palos Verdes, 16-year-old Norco high school student Alyssa Smith, who finished third as a rookie in the Street Stocks last season, and three-time champ Curtis Dietzsch of Riverside.

Yucaipa’s Chuck Becker, who has won Modified championships the last three years at The PAS (one IMCA and two PAS), will be back to try and make it four in a row in 2019. On Saturday, Becker, who began racing over 40-years ago and who has owned the car he drove to his PAS titles, will be driving a car owned by Long Beach native and now Roseville, California resident John Krebs. Among others In 2019, Becker can expect a stiff challenge from 2017 runner-up Terry Hershberger of Corona, four-time PAS main event winner Steven “Bam Bam” Fangmeyer of Stanton and 2016 Lucas Oil Modified Series champion Matthew Hicks of Lakeside.

El Cajon’s Mike Lerwell is expected to be back to vie for his third track championship in the Super Stock class. 2018 runner-up Fred Estrada of Riverside, who was a regular at Ascot in the 1980s, Beaumont’s Ricky Lee, two-time class champ Dennis Wooldridge of Riverside and Norco’s Tom Smith (father of Alyssa) should all be contenders for the crown.

In the Factory Stocks, Temecula’s Cameron Veatch and Todd Fassler of El Cajon are expected to be back on the track on Saturday night. In 2018, Veatch beat Fassler by a single point to claim the championship. Fassler, Nuevo’s Mike Burks, Swede Ogren of Anza and veteran Kris Carnish of Menifee should all battle Veatch for the title this year.

Adult tickets for Saturday’s race are $15.00. Admission is $5.00 each for active military members with proper id and their spouse or significant other. Teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 get in for just $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. Parking on the fairgrounds is $8.00.

Advance tickets for all 2019 Perris Auto Speedway races are on sale now online at https://pas.tix.com/Schedule.aspx?OrgNum=7 or by calling 1-800-595-4849. For fans who do not wish to purchase tickets in advance, there will be plenty of tickets available for everyone at the track on race night.

A reminder that the Kenny Wallace Dirt Racing Experience, which allows fans to drive real race cars or to take a ride along with a real race driver, returns to The PAS on March 10th and 16th. Fans can choose to drive between several different types of race cars including Late Models, Sprint Cars, IMCA - UMP Style Modifieds, Big Block Modifieds and L-Mods.
