LKQ PICK YOUR PART NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY! By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, February 19, 2019) Perris Auto Speedway will try again to open its 24th consecutive season of racing action this Saturday night, February 23rd, when LKQ Pick Your Part presents Night of Destruction #1. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 P.M. There will be an on-track photo and autograph session at 5:15 and the first race of the 2019 campaign will take the green flag at 7:00. Over the past half-decade, the Nights of Destruction have become the track’s most popular attraction. Starting off with Figure 8 Racing, Figure 8 Trailer Racing and Democross (Democross is an oval race and Demolition Derby all in one), the crowd size has grown every year for the fast-paced 2 ½ hour show. This year promoter Don Kazarian is bringing in two more classes, Mini Stocks and Double-deckers, to give the fans even more bang for their buck. The Mini Stocks debuted with a pair of races near the end of 2018. With short notice, the field had 16 cars for the second time out and is expected to grow. The Mini Stocks are kind of like Democross in that contact is allowed. However, unlike Democross, the Mini Stocks compete on a road course cut through the track’s infield. The Double-deckers are a wild creation that is sure to please the crowd. They will feature one car mounted on top of another. The driver in the car on the bottom will control the gas pedal and the brakes. The driver in the car on top will control the steering. “Double-deckers race at a handful of tracks around the country and are extremely popular with the Night of Destruction crowds,” Kazarian said with a smile. “We expect them to be hugely popular here at The PAS and to be a regular part of the show. Fans want to see crazy daredevils and that is what we are going to give them. It is going to be a very fun season” Both of last year’s Night of Destruction Champions are expected to be on hand on Saturday. Third generation racer Kyle Cox of Huntington Beach will attempt to defend his titles in the Figure 8 Trailer and Democross classes as well as his Overall Ironman crown (combined points in all three classes). The only title Cox did not win last year was the Figure 8’s. For the second year in a row, Beaumont’s Jesse Gordon, who is a respiratory therapist at Kaiser Permanente in Riverside, won the Figure 8 championship. In addition to the smash em’ up, bang em’ up classes, the Formula X and CrossKarts will be in action with two heats and a main event on the road course. After Saturday, the season will continue March 9th when the PASSCAR Stock Cars and IMCA Modifieds will stage a doubleheader. The twin bill is a result of the February 9th rainout. Open wheel racing will debut for the year at the Annual So Cal Showdown featuring the NOS Energy Drink World Of Outlaws and the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars.
