									  MORE
THAN $10,000 EXTRA UP FOR GRABS AT
									  SATURDAY’S USAC/CRA AND SOUTHWEST SPRINT
									  CAR RACE!

									  By Scott
									  Daloisio
									   (Perris,
									  CA, August 13, 2019)
									  When the
Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the Sands
									  Chevrolet USAC/ Southwest Sprint Cars
return to Perris Auto Speedway for the
“California Racer’s Hall of Fame Night”
this Saturday, August 17th, they will have
extra reasons to be there. More than
10,000 extra reasons to be exact as more
than $10,000.00 has been added to the
normal purse. Spectator gates for the
jointly sanctioned race will open at 5:00
P.M. and the first race will be at 7:00.

(The attached photo of Matt McCarthy
leading Damion Gardner, R.J. Johnson and
Jake Swanson on July 13th at The PAS is
									  courtesy of Doug Allen).
  The
“California Racers Hall of Fame Night” was
known as the “Kindoll Classic” from 1997
through 2011. The race was originally
named after legendary car owner Jack
Kindoll who passed away in 1996. The name
of the race was changed in 2012 and the
purse is one of the best for traditional
sprint cars in the Western USA.

“There is all kinds of extra money up for
grabs on Saturday and it always brings out
the best in the drivers,” promoter Don
Kazarian said. “The extra money is spread
throughout the night in a number of
different ways. We want to give a massive
thank you to everyone who donated to
Saturday’s purse. 100% of their donations
go to the drivers. We also must give a big
thank you to Chris Holt. He organizes the
donations every year and does a phenomenal
job. Without his effort, none of this
									  would be possible.”
  The winner of
Saturday’s main event will receive a bonus
of $1,500.00 from Bill Simpson in memory
of Junior Kurtz. Robert Woodland has
donated an extra $500.00 to the
									  second-place finisher in remembrance of
Catherine Woodland. In addition to the
									  usual $100.00 “Woodland Auto Display”
award for the fast qualifier, Anne
Wilkerson has thrown in an extra $500.00
for the “Billy Wilkerson Fast Time Award.”
Jeff Gardner is pledging $100.00 to the
fifth fast qualifier in memory of Jack
Gardner. National Sprint Car Hall of Famer
Lealand McSpadden has organized the “Ellen
Ellis Hard Charger Award” for the driver
who passes the most cars in the main
event. At the time this piece went to
press, that award stood at more than
									  $1,000.00!
  Saturday’s main event
will feature more than $6,000.00 in lap
money from a variety of individuals and
companies. Each lap will pay a minimum of
$100.00 to the leader. Many of the laps
have more than one donor (each donor was
required to pay $100.00 per lap). For
instance, Pit Boss Jacks has donated
$500.00 to the leader of laps #3 and #7 in
memory of J.W. Mitchell (J.W.’s racing
number was #37). Thus, lap three will pay
$700.00 to the leader and lap seven will
									  see the first-place driver pocketing
									  $900.00.
  One of the highlights of
the night will be the “Junior Kurtz Trophy
Dash.” Kurtz wife Michelle has put up a
$2,000.00 purse for that event. The four
fastest qualifiers will contest a series
of four, three-lap races. Each driver will
start in each of the four starting spots
one time. Like in Speedway Motorcycle
racing, the winner of each of the races
will get three points. Second place will
get two points, third will get one point
and fourth will get zero. At the end of
the fourth race, the points will be
tallied and the driver who has accumulated
the most points will get the $1,000.00
winner’s share. In case of a tie for
first, there will be a two-lap runoff with
									  the tied drivers.
  “The fans love
the format for the “Junior Kurtz Trophy
Dash,” Kazarian said. “Decades ago, there
was a trophy dash at every track on every
race night. The winner would normally get
a cheap, plastic trophy. As cars became
more expensive, teams began balking at
participation in trophy dashes, but this
is a totally different deal. It is very
quick and very exciting. The whole deal
takes about four minutes and the overall
winner gets $1,000.00. That is pretty good
for less than five minutes of work.”
As well as the USAC/CRA and Southwest
Sprint Cars, The PAS Senior and Young Gun
Sprints will also be in action.
  At
intermission, all fans will be allowed on
to the front straightaway to see all the
cars up close and for the kids to collect
autographs and free candy from all the
									  drivers.
  Spectator gates for
Saturday’s night of racing and family
entertainment will open at 5:00 P.M. and
the first race will take the green flag at
									  7:00.
  Tickets are $25.00 for
adults. Seniors 65 and over get in for
$20.00. For active military with proper id
and their spouse or date, it is $5.00
each. Teens 13-18 with their school id and
kids 6-12 get in for $5.00. Children 5 and
under are free. Parking on the fairgrounds
									  is $8.00.
  Camping on the
fairgrounds opens at noon on Friday.
Tailgating on the grassy area outside of
turn four begins at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday.
