$6,000.00 UP FOR GRABS FOR WINNERS IN PASSCAR SUPER STOCKS AND IMCA MODIFIEDS AT PERRIS IN THE NEXT SIX WEEKS
By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, June 7, 2021) Due to the love of racing from an anonymous person, the next six weeks could be very lucrative for PASSCAR Stock Car and IMCA Modified racers at Perris Auto Speedway. From this Saturday night, June 12th, through July 24th, there will be four PASSCAR/IMCA races at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval. In the fast Super Stock class, if a driver were to win all four of the main events, he would pocket $6,000.00. Likewise, if a single driver wins all four of the IMCA Modified mains, that driver would take home $6,000.00 as well. In the Street Stocks, the four-race sweep would be worth $4,000.00 and a like performance in the American Factory Stocks would put $2,000.00 in the victor’s wallet.

Through the first two PASSCAR/IMCA races at The PAS this year, eight main events have been contested. Only one driver, Street Stock star Stefan Davies of Murrieta, has been able to win both mains in his division. Those winning efforts have netted him a total of $2,000.00. So far, the $1,500.00 to win purses in the IMCA Modifieds have gone to non-PAS regulars Austin Kiefer of Bakersfield and Pahrump, Nevada’s Jake Pike. David Lord of Hemet and Billy Griffin of Buena Park have each taken one of the $1,500.00 to win Super Stock shows. In the Factory Stocks, Anza’s Swede Ogren and Chris Evans of National City have claimed the first two $500.00 winner’s checks.

Buena Park's Billy Griffin leads the PAS/IMCA Modified point standings and is second in the Super Stocks. Bobby Kimbrough Photo.

“The intensity of the competition has been turned up several notches this year with the extra purse money up for grabs,” promoter Don Kazarian said. “We think it will remain that way all year. If you look at the Modifieds, winners of the first two main events are non-locals who dropped by and picked up some extra cash. We expect visitors to drop in all season long to take on the locals. That certainly adds to the competitiveness and excitement of the racing programs. The main events will pay the same to win at every race except for the October date when there will be more money added.”

Heading into Saturday’s show, Griffin leads Ventura based Brandon Hoekstra by six-points in The PAS/IMCA Modified point standings. That is the largest lead for any driver after the first two races. Norco’s Tom Smith, who won the second ever IMCA Modified championship at The PAS in 2004, is third in the championship standings and is only two points out of second. Carla Laney of Torrance, winner of the first stock car race at The PAS in 1996, is fourth in the Modified standings. Smith’s 19-year-old daughter, Alyssa, rounds out the top five.

Griffin not only comes into Saturday’s race leading in the Modifieds, but he is second in the PASSCAR Super Stock standings and is only two-points out of first. The driver Griffin is chasing in the Super’s is former Speedway Motorcycle and Motocross racer Tyson Talkington of Riverside. Trailing the lead duo in third is 2013 and 2016 class champion Dennis Wooldridge of Riverside. Lord, and Marina Del Rey’s Ron Bartels are fourth and fifth.

Davies has been the most dominant driver through the first two races of the season. His two wins have been in convincing style, but he only leads the championship standings by three-points over Brandon Kelly of Moreno Valley. Kelly warmed up for the PAS season by posting a pair of wins at Arizona’s Mojave Valley Raceway. Riverside’s Curtis Dietzsch, a three-time PASSCAR Street Stock champion, is currently third and is only two-points behind Kelly. Kelly’s father Doug, who also resides in Moreno Valley, is fourth with 2002 class champion George Boulden of Lake Elsinore fifth.

The tightest top five in points after two races is in the PASSCAR American Factory Stocks. Only nine-points separates the current leader from the fifth-place driver. Two-time defending champion Cameron Veatch has a slender three-point lead over Ogren. Ogren kicked off the season with his first ever win on April 17th. Perennial contender Mike Burks of Nuevo and Lemon Grove’s Rick Eicksteadt are deadlocked for third, just three points behind Ogren. Fifth is Chris Evans of National City who captured his first PAS win on May 15th.

Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday with the first race getting the green flag at 7:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. Kids 6-12 are $5.00. Children 5 and under are free. COVID mandates are still in place in the county. Thus, tickets will only be available online at https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/pas/7. There will be no walk-up tickets for Saturday’s race. Face coverings and social distancing from other groups in the stands will be required. Also due to current COVID restrictions, PAS concessions will only be available on the “FANFOOD” app. The app is a free download from the App Store. Fans place orders from their seats and pay on the app. When their order is ready, they will receive a text to go to the designated station closest to the section they are seated in to pick it up.

The fairgrounds charges $10.00 for parking. Camping on the fairgrounds is available for $25.00 per night beginning at noon on Friday.
