NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION STAR JESSE GORDON MAKES PASSCAR SUPER STOCK DEBUT SATURDAY AT PERRIS
By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, July 20, 2021) When LKQ Pick Your Part Presents Night of Destruction at Perris Auto Speedway, there is no mistaking that Jesse Gordon and his Batmobileol.com Figure 8 car are the fan’s favorite. Those fans can start getting a double dose of Gordon this Saturday night, July 24th, when he expands his racing endeavors by joining the ranks of the PASSCAR Super Stock Series.

Spectator gates to see Gordon’s Super Stock debut will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Be sure to bring all the neighborhood kids to meet Gordon and the other track stars at the on-track autograph session and candy giveaway at intermission.

Gordon has been absent at the last couple Nights of Destruction and that has caused some concern among his legion of fans. However, he had a happy reason and a gloomy reason for being out of the driver's seat. The happy reason is he married his girlfriend Aubree in early June. The woeful reason is just before getting hitched, he had surgery to remove a kidney stone. He is now a very happy married man and has recovered from the surgery. To make things even sweeter, he was offered a ride in a brand-new Super Stock Car to race at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval. The car is owned by 2017 track Super Stock champion Andy Moreton.

“I have always been good friends with Andy Moreton down through the years,” Gordon said from his Beaumont, California home on Monday night. “I raced for him previously in Modifieds back in 2013 at the Orange Show (for a year when it was dirt) and at Victorville. He is building a new car and he is getting up there in age. He feels like he may not be able to handle Perris as much. He wants me to race for him, so I have kind of been working with him on his car and helping him out. That is how it happened.”

For the last five years Gordon, who is a respiratory therapist at Kaiser Permanente-Riverside Medical Center, has concentrated on the rough and tumble world of Night of Destruction and Figure 8 racing. To say the least he has done well. His first night racing in a Figure 8 was the season opener at Perris in 2017. He arrived late due to work and had to start at the back all night long. But when the final checkered flag flew, he finished second. From that night through the end of the 2019 season, he won three straight Figure 8 championships (2017, 2018, 2019), the 2017 Iron Man and the 2019 Figure 8 Trailer race titles. That gave him five championships in four seasons at Perris. However, it all began racing on the ovals.

“I started in Street Stocks and within the next year I was into Sport Modifieds and then IMCA Modifieds,” the affable driver said. “I actually raced an IMCA Modified at Perris in 2016. It has not been that long.”

Not only will it be the first night for Gordon to be in a Super Stock, but it will also be the first time for the car on the track as it is brand new. That can sometimes be problematic shaking the car down on a race night, but Gordon has high hopes.

“My expectations are not to have any new car blues,” he stated. “Hopefully – let's be optimistic – end up with a top five. Lets start low. I have not tested it yet. It has been run around the yard at his house (Moreton), but I have not actually been on a track and tested it. We will shake it down in hot laps. Hopefully sooner, but that is probably where we will end up doing it.”

Night of Destruction fans need not fret as the healed Gordon and his Batmobile car are revved up and ready to return to Night of Destruction.

Heading into Saturday night’s race, Riverside’s Tyson Talkington is the leader in the Super Stock Point standings. Brandon Kelly of Moreno Valley sits in first place in the Street Stocks and three time defending champion Cameron Veatch of Temecula is the leader in the American Factory Stocks. Buena Park veteran Billy Griffin, the 2013 PAS Modified champion, leads the way in the IMCA Modifieds.

Adult tickets for Saturday’s race are $20.00. Kids aged 6-12 get in for $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. There will be plenty of tickets for everyone at the track ticket window on Saturday. This event will not sell out. For those who wish to purchase online tickets for Saturday or any other 2021 Perris Auto Speedway race, please visit tix.com/ticket-sales/pas/7.
