JESSE GORDON AND THE BAT MOBILE RETURN FOR SATURDAY’S NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, July 28, 2021) For the first time in three months, Jesse Gordon and his popular Batmobile car will return to Figure 8 racing when LKQ Pick Your Part Presents Night of Destruction this Saturday night, July 31st, at Perris Auto Speedway. The popular driver has not raced in a Night of Destruction since May 1st due to surgery for a kidney stone. The last time Gordon took to the tricky Figure 8 track located in the infield of the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval, was the first Night of Destruction of the year. On that evening, he kicked off his 2021 racing campaign with a victory in the main event. Since then, his only other time in a racecar was last Saturday when he was on hand to drive a brand new PASSCAR Super Stock. Gordon and crew arrived late, but they unloaded and got ready for the night of racing. Officials gave the veteran racer a few laps of practice to shake the car down and it was fast, but on the second or third lap, it snapped the driveshaft ending his night. “It will be great to have Jesse Gordon back in his Batmobile car at Saturday’s Night of Destruction,” promoter Don Kazarian said. “People have been contacting us wondering where he has been. They have really missed him while he has been out. Especially the kids. They love his car and when they meet him at the on-track autograph sessions before the races, they get to learn what a nice guy he is. On top of everything else, he is a great competitor who gives 100% every time he is on the track. It is going to be fun for everyone when he renews his rivalry with Earl Cox this Saturday night. We expect to see them put on a great show like they always do.” Gordon, who is a respiratory therapist at Kaiser Permanente in Riverside, started racing in the Figure 8 class in 2017. He won the championship that year and followed it with wins in 2018 and 2019. Of course there was no champion in 2020 as the season was canceled after one race. This year will see a different champion for the first time since 2016 when Clint Keenan won the title. In 2015, the first year the track kept Figure 8 points, second generation star Earl Cox claimed the crown. Going into this week’s race, Cox, who lives in Norco, sits on top of the points heap in the Figure 8 class with a total of 177. Riverside’s Roger Storey and Cox’s brother, Kevin, who lives in Foothill Ranch, are tied for second 21-points behind the leader. The “Doctor of Love,” Anthony Guisa of Norwalk, and Brian Kedzior, who calls Rancho Cucamonga home, round out the top five. Of course it would not be Night of Destruction without the zany Double Deckers. Since Kazarian introduced the class in 2019, they have become the crowd favorite. The Double Deckers are just what the name implies. One car stacked on top of the other. The driver in the bottom car controls the throttle and brake pedals. The driver in the top car steers. Last month the father and son team of Chris and Eric Evans raced the strange looking machines for the first time, and they smoked the competition much to the delight of the crowd. They will be back on Saturday trying to make it two in a row. In addition to the Figure 8s and Double Deckers, there will be exciting Mini Stock, Demo Cross, and Trailer Figure 8 races to entertain the crowd. Before the races from 5:15 to 5:45, there will be an on-track autograph session where the drivers will not only sign autographs, but they will also pass out free candy to all the kids in attendance. “For anybody who has never been to Night of Destruction, it is a fast-paced fun show,” Kazarian mused. “It is normally just a little over two hours long and is packed with exciting racing and some crazy crashes. It is only $5.00 for kids 6-12. Where else can you entertain your kids for two straight hours and see them smile all night long for just $5.00? Kids five and under get in for free.” Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. for Saturday’s show and the previously mentioned autograph/session candy giveaway will be 30-minutes long from 5:15 to 5:45. The first race will take the green flag at 7:00. There will be plenty of tickets for everyone at the front gate. This event will not sellout. Adult tickets for Night of Destruction are $20.00. Kids 6-12 get in for just $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. The fairgrounds charges $10.00 for parking.
