LKQ PICK YOUR PART PRESENTS THE EVER-GROWING NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, August 24, 2021) It will be another night of dirt track thrills and family fun when LKQ Pick Your Part Presents Night of Destruction this Saturday, August 28th, at Perris Auto Speedway. In addition to the racing, there will be a giant on track autograph session where drivers will pass out free candy to kids in attendance from 5:15 to 5:45. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Saturday’s program will include daring Figure 8 racing, a crazy Figure 8 Trailer race, exciting Mini Stocks, car crashing Demo Cross and the zany Double Deckers. Since its inception a decade ago, Night of Destruction has turned into the most popular monthly event at the Riverside County speed plant. The show has done nothing but gain in popularity every year due to the tweaks promoter Don Kazarian has made to the event. Those tweaks have contributed to Night of Destruction’s ever-expanding fan base. The two latest tweaks to the show came in 2018 and 2019 when the Mini Stocks and Double Deckers were added to the program. The Double Deckers have become the most popular entity of Night of Destruction. They feature one car stacked on top of another. The driver in the bottom car controls the throttle pedal and the brakes and the one on top steers. That may sound crazy, but not nearly as crazy as when seeing them in person. Since then the track has continued to field a handful of cars, but privately owned Double Deckers are starting to show up as well. A brand-new entry out of the San Diego area debuted two months ago. Another new one will be there this week. Rumors abound that one more will be done in time for Saturday’s madness. More and more people have expressed an interest in fielding Double Deckers, or they are already in the process of building them. Like Demo Cross, the Double Deckers are a full contact class where everything goes. That adds to the excitement for the crowd as the weight on top sometimes sees the cars get up on the two right side wheels (they race in a clockwise direction) and occasionally flip over. It is perhaps the wildest competition one will ever see on a racetrack and one that must be seen in person to be believed. Like the Demo Cross and the Double Deckers, the Mini Stocks are a full contact class where everything goes. The rules for the Mini Stocks are simple. Any 1970 or newer American or Foreign Stock OEM 2 or 4 door hardtop car. No Turbo Charged or All Wheel Drive vehicles. No Jeeps or Trucks. One more important rule in the Mini Stocks is the fact that rather than racing on the oval, they race on a road course. The simple rules combined with the affordability and availability of cars, make the Mini Stocks the biggest class at Night of Destruction. Starting with just six cars at the first race late in the 2018 season, the class has seen more than 40 cars compete in 2021. “We have been staging Night of Destruction for a decade now,” promoter Don Kazarian said on Monday. “When it comes to excitement and crazy, wild crashes, I do not think any fan has ever went home disappointed after a Night of Destruction. It is a thrill a minute show. Everyone from the little children all the way to senior citizens leave with smiles on their faces.” Adult tickets are $20.00. Kids 6-12 get in for just $5.00 and children five and under are free. There will be plenty of tickets available at the ticket window on Saturday. We will not sellout. Camping at the fairgrounds on the grassy area outside of turn four will begin at noon on Friday. The cost is $25.00 per night. Perris Auto Speedway is conveniently located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds (home of October’s Southern California Fair), approximately one-hour east of Los Angeles and one-hour North of San Diego. To get to the track, take the 215 freeway, on the Ramona Expressway and go three miles east to the fairgrounds.
