PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY HOSTS CHAMPION’S NIGHT FOR STOCK CARS AND MODIFIEDS THIS SATURDAY
By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, November 9, 2021) With fall settling into Southern California and the first day of winter a little over a month away, it is the annual time of year when Perris Auto Speedway starts to wind down the racing season. Last week was the final night of Sprint Car racing for the year. This Saturday, November 13th, the PASSCAR Stock Cars and Modifieds will bid a fond adieu for the year at “Champion’s Night.” Next Saturday, November 20th, LKQ Pick Your Part will present Night of Destruction and that event will bring down the curtain on the track’s historic 25th season of racing action.

Going into Saturday’s PASSCAR finale, two drivers in each class have a chance at gaining the glory of a championship title. One driver, Buena Park’s Billy Griffin, who already sewed up the championship in the IMCA Modifieds, will come into Saturday with the possibility of winning both The PAS Modified and Super Stock championships. In the Modifieds, he has a slim six-point lead over Norco’s Tom Smith. With a maximum of 23 points (if a driver were to win the main event and his heat) in the Super Stock class, Griffin has a comfortable 16-point lead over former Speedway Motorcycle racer Tyson Talkington of Riverside. If Griffin takes both of those titles, he would be the first driver to win three championships at the track in one year. And in all probability, that will not happen again for a long time.

In the Street Stocks, Moreno Valley’s Brandon Kelly has led the championship standings for most of the 2021 campaign and he is seeking his first ever track championship. However, he has Curtis Dietzsch lurking behind in second. A three-time track champion in the class, Dietzch, who lives in Riverside, only trails Kelly by 13 points going into Saturday’s “Showdown for the Crown.” If Dietzsch were to take the lead from Kelly and win the title, it would be his first championship since 2010.

In the American Factory Stocks, Temecula’s Cameron Veatch is seeking his third consecutive championship. If he prevails, he would be the first driver in the history of the class to win three titles in a row. However, he is just a mere 10-points in front of Nuevo’s Mike Burks.

If Veatch does capture his third title in a row, he would only be the third driver in the track’s stock car history to do so. Luke Dodd won three championships in a row in the Street Stock class in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and Alan Updyke did the triple in the Modifieds in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday for the night of dirt track racing and family fun. The first race will be at 7:00. At intermission, all fans will be able to go onto the track for the traditional autograph session. All drivers will be available to the fans, and they will be passing out free candy to all the children in attendance.

Adult tickets for “Champion’s Night” are $20.00. For kids ages 6-12 it is only $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. There will be plenty of tickets available for everyone at the ticket window on Saturday. This race will not sellout. For fans who wish to purchase tickets in advance, they can do so 24 hours a day online at https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/pas/7 or by calling 1-800-595-4849. The fairgrounds charges $10.00 for parking.
