PASSCAR STOCK CARS AND IMCA RETURN TO PERRIS SATURDAY By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, March 28, 2022) Perris Auto Speedway racing action will heat up once again this Saturday night, April 2nd, when the track plays host to the second night of stock car racing in 2022. Supplying the clay-slinging thrills on the track will be the PASSCAR Super Stocks, Street Stocks/IMCA Stock Cars, American Factory Stocks, and the new IMCA Sport Compacts. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Saturday will be the second night of the PASSCAR Street Stocks/IMCA Stock Cars running as one class. Defending track street stock champion Brandon Kelly will attempt to make it two wins in a row after scoring a convincing victory in the season opener. Still running his PASSCAR Street Stock, he posted the win over the IMCA Stock Cars of Sean Estes of Riverside and Chris Leventis who lives in Rancho Palos Verdes. In anticipation of turning the street stock class into IMCA Stock Cars in 2023 or 2024, the track is running the two classes together. There will be an overall champion from the two classes running together. The IMCA Stock Cars will also be running for a separate track championship. In addition, they will be accumulating points for the state of California, Northern Region, and national titles as well. The highlight of the season-opening race featured a thrilling last corner pass for the win by Riverside’s Tyson Talkington in the PASSCAR Super Stocks. The former Speedway Motorcycle racer narrowly lost the Super Stock title at the track the last two seasons. However, his late-race heroics on the 19th have planted him into the early season point lead. “I gave it all,” an exhausted Talkington told the crowd after the exciting win. “I lost the rear brakes on the second lap. I could not figure out what was spraying me in the face. It was brake fluid coming off the master cylinder. Talkington took the lead in the 20-lap feature race coming off turn four on the last lap when he passed Marina Del Rey’s Ron Bartels. Bartels, who had led from lap three, placed second with past track champion Blaine Whitson of Temecula third. Hemet’s Jason Cook dominated the action in the PASSCAR American Factory Stock main event at the track’s 26th season opener and Ken McWilliams did likewise when the IMCA Sport Compacts made their first-ever appearance at the track. All four of the season-opening winning drivers are expected to be back on Saturday night. During intermission at Saturday’s race, the tradition of all the drivers and cars parking on the front straightaway to pass out free candy to the kids and sign autographs will continue. The ritual has become almost as popular as the racing itself. All spectators are urged to bring kids and invite some new fans to come along with them for a night of thrilling races and clean, family fun. Adult tickets for Saturday’s PASSCAR/IMCA race are $20.00. For kids 6-12 it is just $5.00. Children 5 and under are free. The fairgrounds charges $10.00 for parking.
