NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION #1 SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, April 18, 2022) FINALLY! That is the one word being heard from all the competitors who compete in LKQ Pick Your Part Nights of Destruction at Perris Auto Speedway. The popular event was supposed to open the 26th season of racing at the track on March 5th. However, Mother Nature intervened, and that night was canceled by rain. This Saturday night, April 23rd, seven weeks after the rainout, the “Craziest Show On Dirt” will FINALLY take place with daring Figure 8 Races, a wild Figure 8 Trailer Race, rough and tumble Mini Stocks, no holds barred Demo Cross, and the zany Double Deckers. Doug Allen Photo. “The competitors will be able to get on the track, vent their pent-up frustrations and bend up some bodywork,” promoter Don Kazarian said from behind his desk. “It has been over five months since the last Night of Destruction, so saying everyone is raring to go is an understatement. We are not only talking about the drivers, but the fans have been clamoring for this night to get here as well. I guess if there is one good thing about the rainout, it is that more drivers will have their cars done and others have had an extra seven weeks to fine-tune their machines. This show is going to be wild.” The track expects to see all the 2021 champions return to defend their titles beginning on Saturday night. They include “The Legend, Earl Cox of Norco in Figure 8’s, Whittier resident Douglas Schattilly in the Trailer Figure 8’s, Andrew Schmitz who lives in Hemet in the Mini Stocks, Weston Hughes of Wildomar & Austin Kinnane of Riverside who tied for the title in Democross, and Corona’s Michael & Darryl Berna who triumphed in the Double Deckers. In addition, the driver who was crowned Iron Man Champion in 2021, “Dangerous” Dan Pachella of Long Beach is also expected to be on hand. The Iron Man Champion is the driver who accumulates the most combined points between all of the classes. Fans are urged to come out early as between 5:15 – 5:45, they will be allowed on the track to meet the drivers and see the cars close up at the on-track autograph and photo session. In addition, the drivers will be passing out free candy to the kids on hand at that time. “Night of Destruction is just a fun family show that appeals to all ages,” Kazarian stated. “From the candy giveaway and autographs to start the night, to counting down the start of the races. Fans of all ages love it. Especially the kids. It is also a show that is concluded in a timely manner. We are usually finished between 9:30 and 9:45 so everyone can be on their way and arrive back home at a decent hour.” Spectator gates for the Saturday racing and crashing extravaganza will open at 5:00 p.m. and the crashing will begin at 7:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. For kids ages 6-12 it is just $5.00. Children 5 and under are free. There will be plenty of tickets for everyone, this event will not sell out. The fairgrounds charges $10.00 for parking. Advance tickets for all Perris Auto Speedway events are on sale now.
