CHARITY DEMOLITION DERBY ADDED TO PERRIS NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, May 16, 2022) When the “Craziest Show On Dirt,” Night of Destruction Presented By LKQ Pick Your Part, returns to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, May 21st, fans will get an extra bang for their buck. In addition to Figure 8 racing, a Figure 8 Trailer Race, Mini Stocks, Demo Cross, and the zany Double Deckers, fans will also enjoy the “Crush Cancer Demolition Derby.” It is the only Demolition Derby currently planned at the track in 2022. 260227750_7060814687269426_6559309698810303660_n.jpg Demolition Derby photo courtesy of Kenny Lonngren. All the proceeds from the Demolition Derby will benefit the Relay for Life of Riverside County East. The drivers entered in the derby are donors to the cause. In addition, there will be an auction for fans to bid on three extra cars for the derby. Once the auction ends, the three winners will pay for their bids using cash or a card. The track will supply the three with helmets and moments later they will be in the middle of the motorized mayhem smashin’ and crashin’ to their heart’s desires. “This will be a fantastic opportunity for someone to participate in a demolition Derby without having to spend countless hours building a car,” promoter Don Kazarian said. “Every cent raised in the auction will go straight to fight cancer. A huge thank you to Bob McGinty for supplying all the cars for the derby and getting them ready to battle. Without him, this charity demolition derby would not be possible.” Kazarian’s involvement with the Relay for Life began several years ago when representatives walked into the office one day and made a proposal for the track to be involved. Since that day, due to the generosity and donations from fans, competitors, track sponsors, and Kazarian and his wife Kim, the track has raised over $125,000.00. “Everyone at the track has gotten behind the fight against cancer,” Kazarian stated. “Our drivers go into the stands and collect money in their helmets from the fans during intermission. The drivers donate themselves and so do the team owners and sponsors. We have great fans and they have been sensational and have been very generous in supporting the cause over the years. It is a team effort, and everyone does their part.” The entire night will be a crash fest as the daring Figure 8 and Figure 8 Trailer racers will be testing their nerve as they try to speed through the intersection without getting t-boned by another car. Demo Cross is a wild mix of racing and a demolition derby all in one. Crashing or spinning out other drivers is all legal. The mini stocks race by the same anything-goes rules as demo cross. The only difference is they do it on a road course that zig-zags its way through the infield. The crowd’s favorite double deckers feature one car bolted on top of another. The driver in the bottom car controls the throttle pedal and brakes. The driver of the top car handles the steering. Before the races from 5:15 through 5:45, all the fans will be allowed onto the track to meet the drivers, take photos of the cars, and collect autographs. In addition, all the drivers will be passing out free candy to all the children at the track. “Night of Destruction has become our biggest drawing show,” Kazarian stated with a smile. “In our wildest dreams we never imagined it happening, but it has. It is a show that is fun for kids from four years old to seniors in their 90s. It is good, clean family fun. From kids collecting candy from the drivers before the races to the final checkered flag of the night, it is a fast-paced, highly entertaining show. The fans are normally on their way back home by 10:00 p.m.” Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, with racing at 7:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. Kids 6-12 get in for $5.00. Children 5 and under are free. The fairgounds charges $10.00 for parking. Advance tickets for all Perris Auto Speedway events, including this Saturday, are on sale now.
