PASSCAR AND IMCA STOCK CAR SHOW RETURNS TO PERRIS SATURDAY By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, August 22, 2022) For the first time in nearly three months, Perris Auto Speedway will host a PASSCAR/IMCA Stock Car show this Saturday night, August 27th. The program will feature Super Stocks, the combined PASSCAR Street Stocks/IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Compacts, and the American Factory Stocks. Fans are urged to bring all the children in the neighborhood for the popular free candy giveaway and autograph session at intermission. All the drivers will bring their cars onto the front straightaway. Fans will be allowed onto the racetrack to mingle with the drivers, get autographs, take pictures, and for the kids to collect free candy. When it comes to victories the most competitive class thus far in 2022 has been the PASSCAR Super Stocks. In four races, the division has produced four different winners. Past Speedway motorcycle racer Tyson Talkington of Riverside won the season opener. Two weeks later, the first driver to the checkered flag was Ricky Lee who resides in Beaumont. Yucaipa’s Chuck Becker, who drives the only convertible in the class, won the main event on May 14th. At the last race on June 4th, Tony Kinkade Jr., who came all the way from Pahrump, Nevada, took the win. In four races this year, Talkington has not finished worse than third. In addition to his win, he has one second-place finish and has come in third two times. Those performances see him enter Saturday’s race with a 13-point advantage over Lee. Past champion and Talkington rival Blaine Whitson of Temecula is currently third with Riverside racers Tom Davis and Becker rounding out the top five. The PASSCAR Street Stocks/IMCA Stock Car class has been dominated by the Kelly family from Moreno Valley. Defending class champ Brandon Kelly has won three of the first four races this year and his father Doug captured the other one. While Brandon has three wins, he is currently tied for first with Rancho Palos Verdes’ Chris Leventis in the standings. Doug Kelly is third with Riverside residents Evan Sennett and Shaun Estes fourth and fifth. Despite not winning a main event this year, Night of Destruction graduate Austyn Jaramillo of Winchester leads the PASSCAR American Factory Stock standings. However, to say his lead is precarious would be an understatement. The second place driver, Joseph Pack of Menifee, is only one point behind. In fact, the top six in the standings are only separated by six points. Jaramillo has 68 points and Pack has 67. Colton’s Lanny Savage is third with 65 points. Three-time winner David Stites of Canyon Lake and hometown hero Aaron Pack of Perris are tied for fourth with 64 points. Nuevo’s Ethan Kintop is sixth and has 62 points. San Jacinto’s Jason Cook is the only driver besides Stites with a win in the class this year. First-year driver Edward Finger of Temecula, who finished second in the first two IMCA Sport Compact mains of the year and who won the last two, leads veteran Ken McWilliams of Menifee by three points. Newcomer Ava Laney of Huntington Beach sits third in the standings heading into this weekend’s show. Ava Santana of Westminster is fourth and Canyon Lake’s Tom Shappie is tied for fifth with Loma Linda’s Traci Whatley. Other winners in the first four races of the year were McWilliams and David Uraine. All drivers will compete in heat races before contesting 20-lap main events to end the night. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 and racing will begin at 7:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. For kids 6 through 12 it is just $5.00 and children 5 and under are free.
