THE CRAZIEST SHOW ON DIRT, NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION, RETURNS TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY
By Scott Daloisio

(Perris, CA, August 30, 2022) After one of its wildest shows in recent memory on August 7th, “The Craziest Show On Dirt,” Night of Destruction presented by LKQ Pick Your Part, returns to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, September 3rd. The crash-a-minute show that provides fun for the whole family will feature daring Figure 8 Racing, a wild Figure 8 Trailer Race, the mighty Mini Stocks, rough and tumble Demo Cross, and the crowd favorite zany Double Deckers. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and the crashing will start at 7:00.

Double Deckers feature the driver on the bottom control the throttle and brakes and the driver on top steering. Doug Allen Photo.

Fans are encouraged to come out early on Saturday so kids can collect free candy, get autographs, and meet all the drivers on the track from 5:15 – 5:45. Practice will commence soon after that and the destruction will start promptly at 7:00.

When the show last appeared at the world-famous Riverside County speed plant on August 13th, fans were treated to the biggest field of Double Deckers ever to appear at the track since their inclusion in the show a half-decade ago. When six of them emerged from the back pit area, the enthusiastic crowd roared its approval. The class, which features one car bolted on top of another, has yet to disappoint and grows crazier with each addition to the field. When you consider that the driver on the bottom controls the gas pedal and the brakes and the driver in the car on top controls the steering, something is bound to go wrong and when it does with two cars stacked on top of each other, it is big.

“As the Double Decker field grows, the competition gets tougher and tougher,” said Don Kazarian, who has promoted the track for over a quarter of a century. “They keep getting faster and faster which results in intense competition. Just when you think it cannot get crazier, it does. When they pull on the track for their races, and even before the show starts when they do their hot laps, there is no line at the concession stands and no line for the restrooms. All the fans want to be in the stands to see what is going to happen. You really have to see it to believe it and even when you do, you cannot believe some of the predicaments they get into when they are racing. They are sensational.”

Heading into this week’s crash fest, Trebor Stephens of San Jacinto has a comfortable 35-point lead over his closest pursuer in Demo Cross. The Figure 8 class is a lot tighter as Riverside’s Roger Storey, who took the lead from veteran Kevin Cox of Foothill Ranch at the last race, now has a nine-point lead coming into Saturday. Kameron Perry of Riverside has run up a 30-point lead in the Mini Stocks heading into Saturday’s night of mayhem. In the Double Deckers, the Ghost Busters car driven by John Flowers and Martin Bygum sits on top of the points charts while Brian Kedzior of Riverside currently holds down the top spot in both the Figure 8 Trailer and the Overall combined Iron Man title. In the F8 Trailers, his lead is a mere six points over Whittier’s Michael Schattilly. Rob Multhaupt Jr. of Orange is only 12-behind. In Iron Man, which combines points from all the classes, Kedzior has a commanding 75-point lead over Schattilly.

Among the rising stars and most popular drivers who will be competing on Saturday is elementary school teacher Casey Multhaupt. Competing in the rough and tumble world of Demo Cross, she is fifth in the points entering Saturday’s races. One of her competitors is her father Rob Multhaupt Jr. who is 13th in the standings.

Adult tickets for Saturday’s “Crashaganza” are $20.00. For kids 6-12 it is just $5.00, and children 5 and under are free. There will be plenty of tickets for everyone. This event will not sell out. The fairgrounds charges $10.00 for parking.
