PASSCAR AND IMCA SERIES’ RETURN TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY APRIL 29 By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, April 25, 2022) After what has been described as the best opening night of stock car racing at Perris Auto Speedway three weeks ago, the PASSCAR Super Stocks, Street Stocks, and American Factory Stocks, along with the IMCA Modifieds and Sport Compacts will converge on the track for round #2 this Saturday, April 29. In addition to the great racing, the night of clean family fun will also include an autograph session and free candy giveaway for all the kids on the track with the drivers and cars at intermission. Spectator gates will open at 5 PM and the first race will begin promptly at 7:00. The first two races of the year have produced two different winners in the PASSCAR Super Stocks. Tom Davis of Riverside, the 2022 Mohave Valley Raceway Super Stock champion, won the season opener in March. Chino’s Tyler Gitmed took the win three weeks ago. For both, it was their first-ever win on the famous Riverside County Half Mile Clay Oval. For Gitmed, the victory came in only his eighth race at The PAS. The point leader coming into this Saturday is multi-time track champion Chuck Becker out of Yucaipa. The veteran has a second and fourth in the first two races and pocketed some heat race points to get to the top spot. Beaumont’s Ricky Lee and defending champion Tyson Talkington of Riverside are deadlocked for second place and only two points behind Becker. Davis is fourth and Buena Parks Billy Griffin, the 2021 champion, is fifth. Star racer Chaz Baca of Mesa, Arizona made a rare PAS appearance and won the first IMCA Modified main of the year three weeks ago. The leader in IMCA Modified National points outdistanced multi-time PAS winner Austin Kiefer of Bakersfield and Johnny “Lightning” Malcolm of Riverside for the win. For Malcolm, it was his first PAS performance in over a decade and he led more than half of the race. Austin Kuehl of Cave Creek, Arizona, and Matthew Hicks of Santee rounded out the top five in the main. Riverside’s Shaun Estes has won the first two PASSCAR Street Stock races of the year, but he is only tied for second in points. Chris Leventis, defending class champion of Rancho Palos Verdes, has racked up enough main event and heat race points to lead the standings after two races. Leventis has a slender two-point lead over Estes and 2021 champion Branden Kelly of Moreno Valley who are tied for second. Second-year driver Chad Mahoney of Yorba Linda and Leventis’s son George are tied for fourth, only six points out of the lead. Camaro drivers Chris Evans of Ramona and Menifee’s Kris Carnish placed first and second in the American Factory Stock main season opener and are tied for the point lead. Austyn Jaramillo of Winchester, David Uraine of Menifee, and Jim Pierce of Lake Mathews round out the top five. The IMCA Sport Compacts are headed by Buena Park’s Marcus Ford, who scored a convincing win for his second-ever PAS main victory at the season opener. Tujunga’s William Vint, Ava Laney of Huntington Beach, Sydney Kitchen, and Ava Sanchez are ranked second through fifth coming into Saturday’s race. Adult tickets for Saturday’s night of exciting racing and clean family fun are $20.00. For kids 6 to 12 it is just $5.00, and children 5 and under are admitted free. Perris Auto Speedway is conveniently located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds (home of the Southern California Fair), one-hour east of Los Angeles and one-hour North of San Diego.
