Photo by Doug Allen THE CRAZIEST SHOW ON DIRT - NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION - RETURNS TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, May 16, 2022) After a record-setting opening night in April, the “Craziest Show On Dirt,” Night of Destruction presented by LKQ Pick Your Part, returns to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, May 20th. Saturday’s crazy show will feature daring Figure 8 Racing, full contact Mini Stock Road Races, rough and tumble Demo Cross, edge-of-your-seat Mini Stock Figure 8s, and, of course, the crowd favorite zany Double Deckers. Spectator gates for the night of wild crashes and clean entertainment for the whole family will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. After the first scheduled Night of Destruction of 2023 in March was canceled due to rain, a record number of cars showed up for what turned out to be the season opener last month. More than 80 cars poured into the pit area and they were joined by a large enthusiastic crowd. The show ended up being one of the wildest since the track first hosted Night of Destruction over a decade ago. “Early on, there were not a lot of cars in the pits like normal,” promoter Don Kazarian said. “All of a sudden and a lot later than usual, they started coming from everywhere. We knew it would be a good car count as some cars were not ready for the show that was rained out in March and others did not get torn up due to the rainout. It ended up being one of the wildest, hardest-hitting Nights of Destruction we have ever had. We hope we have just as many entries, if not more, this Saturday.” Another thing that was not in short supply at the April show was the crowd. As usual, the stands were packed with a large, very enthusiastic crowd. “This is a show for the whole family,” Kazarian said. “It is exciting and it is a clean, family-fun atmosphere. It starts early when all the fans are let onto the track at 5:15 to meet all the drivers, get a close-up look at the cars, take photos, and get autographs. In addition, the drivers have free candy or other giveaways for the children. The National Anthem is at 7:00 and the first crash is moments later. It is a fast-paced show with very little downtime. There is no reason to have the crowd sit there till 11:00 or midnight. That is especially important for those with kids. They get bored if the show drags on. We usually have the show completed and the fans on their way home by 9:45 or 10:00.” All the winners from April – Earl Cox Jr. in Figure 8s, Trebor Stephens in Demo Cross, Jake Gray in Mini Stock Figure 8, Chris Martin in Mini Stock Road Race, Bug Ya’ Later in Double Deckers) – are all expected to be back in action on Saturday. Adult tickets for Saturday’s Night of Destruction are $20.00. Kids 6-12 get in for $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. The fairgrounds charge $10.00 for parking.
