THE
CRAZIEST SHOW ON DIRT RETURNS TO PERRIS
AUTO SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY By Scott Daloisio
(Perris, CA, June 26, 2023)
The “Craziest Show On Dirt,”
Night of Destruction presented by LKQ Pick
Your Part, returns to Perris Auto Speedway
this Saturday night, July 1st. The chaotic
show will feature daring Figure 8 Racing,
no rules Demo Cross, Mini Stock Figure 8s,
no-holds-barred Mini Stock Road Racing,
and, of course, the crowd’s favorite zany
Double Deckers. Spectator gates for the
night of edge-of-your-seat action will
open at 5:00 p.m. and the first of dozens
of breathtaking crashes and close calls
will be just after 7:00.
Night of
Destruction is an exciting show that
includes wild racing, an overabundance of
extreme crashes, and clean family fun for
everyone from tots to senior citizens.
Track management takes pride in keeping
the show moving all night long and getting
fans on their way home at a reasonable
time.

“Due to our great
officials, and helpful drivers and crews,
we usually have fans on their way home
between 9:30, and 10:00 p.m.” promoter Don
Kazarian said. “Everybody works together
well and knows the importance of not
having a show that drags on with too many
divisions, and too much downtime. We make
sure there is something happening all
night long so the youngsters and the
not-so-young do not get bored. If you have
a kid who gets bored and does not want to
come back, the parents are going to take
the kid somewhere else. It is clean,
family fun that appeals to everyone.”
The fun aspect starts soon after the
spectator gates open. At 5:15 all of the
drivers and their cars will come out to
the front straightaway. They will be there
to pass out free candy to kids, sign
autographs, pose for photos and chat with
all the fans. It gives the fans a chance
to meet the drivers and then cheer for
them throughout the night.
Unlike
the old days when Figure 8 and destruction
event drivers were usually mechanics and
tow truck drivers, today the competitors
come from a variety of different
backgrounds.
Two of today’s most
popular competitors in Night of
Destruction are Jesse Gordon out of
Beaumont and Casey Multhaupt of Murrieta.
Gordon is a respiratory therapist at
Kaiser Permanente in Riverside. He is the
proud owner of five Night of Destruction
championships (three Figure 8, one Trailer
Figure 8, and one Overall Iron Man). That
ties him with Kyle Cox who racked up five
N.O.D. titles before relocating to Texas a
few years ago.

Multhaupt is a fourth-grade
schoolteacher and competes in what is
regarded as the roughest class at the
track, Demo Cross. The class has virtually
no rules. Crashing is permitted. During
the main event, massive tractor tires, old
boats, and jet skis are placed in the
middle of the track as obstacles. Driving
a blue Camaro, she is able to hold her own
against the much heavier pickups, and
SUVs. In addition, she competes against
her father Rob Multhaupt Jr., who began
his career at Ascot Park in Gardena, and
her cousin Canyon Multhaupt who is in his
first full season of racing at The PAS.

Another of the crowd favorites with a
different job is veteran Ken McWilliams of
Menifee. A two-time champion in the old
Figure 8 Trailer class, the
second-generation driver currently works
for the Hemet Police Department and plans
to become a full-time officer.
Heading into Saturday’s show, San
Jacinto’s Trebor Stephens leads the Demo
Cross standings. Two-time Figure 8
champion Earl Cox of Norco is on top of
the Figure 8 point heap. Riverside’s Kris
Martin leads in the Mini Stock Figure 8
and Mini Stock Road Racing classes. Lonnie
Skillman/Don McCall head the points in the
Double Deckers and Menifee’s Bryce
Wade-Pack is the Overall Iron Man (all
classes combined) leader.
