PASSCAR STOCK CARS AND IMCA MODIFIEDS
RETURN TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS
SATURDAY By Scott Daloisio
(Perris, CA, July 18, 2023)
One month after the best stock
car show at Perris Auto Speedway in recent
years the PASSCAR Super Stocks, Street
Stocks, American Factory Stocks, and IMCA
Modifieds and Sport Compacts will return
for an encore performance this Saturday
night, July 22nd. In addition to the night
of exciting racing and clean family fun,
all fans will be invited onto the
racetrack to meet all the drivers, get an
up-close look at the cars, and for the
kids to collect free candy at
intermission. Spectator gates will open at
5:00 PM and the first race will be at
7:00.
The best point battle coming
into Saturday’s show is in the PASSCAR
Street Stocks. No less than three drivers
are deadlocked for the point lead. They
are defending street stock champion Chris
Leventis from Rancho Palos Verdes, 2021
street stock champion and combined
PASSCAR/IMCA 2022 champ Brandon Kelly of
Moreno Valley, and Riverside’s Sean Estes.
Yorba Linda’s Chad Mahony and Leventis’
son George are currently fourth and fifth.

Sean Estes #17, #65 Chris Leventis, and
Brandon Kelly are tied for the street
stock point lead. Kenny Lonngren photo.
Estes has won four of the year’s first
five races and Leventis captured the
other. With the four wins, one would think
Estes would have a sizable point lead.
However, the importance of heat races has
never been more evident. Leventis and
Kelly have both outperformed Estes in the
six-lap prelims this year. In the main
events, those three drivers have dominated
the top three spots. Of the 15 top three
finishing positions available in the first
three races, the trio have collected 13 of
them. Kelly has placed second in the last
four races and had a third in the season
opener. Estes has four wins and a fourth
place finish. Leventis has one win, a
second, two third place finishes and a
fourth. The only other drivers with a top
three in the street stocks to date are
Mahony and George Leventis.
After a
slow start to his 2023 campaign, Buena
Park’s Billy Griffin has won the last two
super stock main events in a row. Those
wins have propelled the four time (3
modified and 1 super stock title) PAS
champion into a first-place tie with
Beaumont’s Ricky Lee. While Lee has not
won a race thus far this year, he has
finished in the top three in all four
races with two third place finishes and
two second-place results.

Chuck Becker #29 and #48T Tyson Talkington
are third and fourth in the super stock
points. Kenny Lonngren photo.
Griffin and Lee can do anything but rest
on their laurels on Saturday as Yucaipa’s
Chuck Becker, a possessor of three track
modified championships, is only one point
behind the super stock leaders. Currently
fourth and ready to pounce is the
defending class champion Tyson Talkington
of Riverside. He only trails the leaders
by two points. Charles Roe of Apple Valley
sits fifth.
The IMCA Modifieds will
be making their fourth appearance of the
2023 season on Saturday. Bakersfield’s
Austin Kiefer, who like Griffin in the
super stocks has won the last two main
events in a row, currently sits on top of
the modified point standings. He carries a
seven-point lead over Santee’s Matt Hicks
into Saturday’s race. Popular Alyssa Smith
of Norco, Kiefer’s girlfriend, is
currently third in the championship
standings. Pahrump, Nevada’s Tony Kincade
Jr is fourth with defending class champ
Randy Thornell of Apple Valley and Johnny
“Lightning” Malcolm of Riverside tied for
fifth. The only driver besides Kiefer to
win in the mods at The PAS this year is
Chaz Baca Jr. Baca, who calls Mesa,
Arizona home, currently leads the IMCA
Modified National points.

main events in a row and leads the point
standings. Doug Allen photo.
Longtime PAS racer Kris Carnish has a
comfortable lead in the PASSCAR American
Factory Stocks. With a third-place finish
last Saturday, the Menifee driver
increased his lead to 15 points in the
standings over fellow Menifee racer David
Uraine. Ethan Kintop of Nuevo is third. He
is followed by defending series champion
David Stites of Canyon Lake. Recent high
school graduate Peyton Griffin of Buena
Park, who is headed for Golden West
College to play goalie on the soccer team,
is currently fifth. She is the daughter of
the aforementioned Billy Griffin.
Stites, who scored his second win of the
season Saturday, is the only driver in the
class with more than one victory this
season. Carnish and San Diego’s Eric Evans
have one win each.

In the first
three races of the season, three different
drivers have visited victory circle in the
IMCA Sport Compacts. Marcus Ford of Buena
Park won the season opener in April. Three
weeks later another long-time Perris
regular Ken McWilliams of Menifee won the
main event. His victory was followed last
month by a triumph for Canyon Lake’s Kyle
Ager. Ford leads the standings over Ava
Laney of Huntington Beach, Ager,
McWilliams, and Ava Santana.

race. Doug Allen photo.
