SUPER
COMPETITIVE PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY
PASSCAR/IMCA SEASON CONTINUES ON SATURDAY By Scott Daloisio
(Perris, CA, August 7, 2023)
What has been one of the most
competitive PASSCAR/IMCA racing seasons at
Perris Auto Speedway will continue this
Saturday night, August 12th, at 7:00 p.m.
The show will be headlined by the PASSCAR
Super Stocks, Street Stocks, and IMCA
Modifieds. They will be joined by the
PASSCAR American Factory Stocks and the
IMCA Sport Compacts. Spectator gates will
open at 5:00 p.m.
In addition to
the exciting edge-of-your-seat racing and
clean family fun, at intermission, all
fans will be allowed onto the track to get
an up-close look at all the cars, get
autographs, and the kids can collect free
candy from all the drivers.
Unlike
the last race on July 22nd, there are no
ties for first place in any of the
classes. However, the top three in points
in the PASSCAR Street Stocks are separated
by a mere three points. The PASSCAR Super
Stocks sees the first-place runner only
six points ahead of the fourth-place
driver. With the intensity of the races
this year and three nights of action to go
counting this Saturday, those divisions
could see a big shake-up before the season
ends at the Jerry Dodd Champion’s Night on
October 28th.
Riverside’s Shaun
Estes, who has won five of the first six
street stock races of the year, finally
sees himself alone at the top of the
championship standings. Currently on a
three-race win streak, Estes came into the
last race in a three-way tie with
defending street stock champion Chris
Leventis of Rancho Palos Verdes, and 2021
champion Brandon Kelly of Moreno Valley.
Kelly ended up second to Estes in the last
race while Leventis finished fourth.
Combined with their heat race results from
the last event, Kelly and Leventis are
deadlocked for second just two points
behind Estes.

Chad
Mahony of Yorba Linda, in only his second
year of competition, is fourth in the
street stock standings. Leventis’s son,
George. rounds out the top five.
Consistency has propelled Rickie Lee to
the top of the heap in the PASSCAR Super
Stock standings. In five races this year,
the Beaumont, California racing veteran
has finished third three times and has a
pair of second-place results. Lee came
into the last race tied in points with
Buena Park’s Billy Griffin. Yucaipa’s
Chuck Becker was only one point behind.
Becker placed second in the main event and
Lee was third. However, a better
performance by Lee in the preliminaries
sees him come into Saturday with a
four-point edge over Becker. Griffin is
third and only trails Lee by five points.
A bad omen for all of them could be
defending class champion Tyson Talkington
of Riverside. Early in the year, he
struggled to come to grips with a car he
purchased over the winter. At the last
race, he debuted a brand new car he built
for his father-in-law and he simply ran
away from the field for his first Perris
win of the year.

Rounding
out the top five in the Super Stocks is
Apple Valley’s Charles Roe. Last year Roe
missed much of the season after a horrific
crash early in the season destroyed his
race car.
Bakersfield’s Austin
Kiefer continues to lead the championship
standings in the IMCA Modifieds. After a
hard-fought battle, he finished second
behind two-time track champion Randy
Thornell of Apple Valley on July 22nd. In
the first four races this season, Kiefer
has two wins and a pair of second-place
finishes. Those sterling results see him
enter Saturday’s race with a comfortable
20-point lead over Thornell with three
races to go. Kiefer’s girlfriend, Alyssa
Smith of Norco, is currently third in
points and is only two behind second place
Thornell. Longtime Highland racer Rick
Becker and Matthew Hicks of Santee are
fourth and fifth.

Menifee’s
Kris Carnish continues to lead the way in
the PASSCAR American Factory Stocks. The
veteran racer will carry the same 15-point
lead he enjoyed in July into Saturday’s
race. Austyn Jaramillo of Winchester, who
has finished second in the last two races,
has moved up to the runner-up spot in the
standings. David Stites of Canyon Lake,
the 2022 champion who has two wins and two
second place finishes in four starts this
year, is third. Ethan Kintop of Nuevo and
Menifee’s David Uraine are fourth and
fifth.

In the American Factory
Stocks, young Marcus Ford of Buena Park
enjoys the biggest lead of all the stock
car classes with three races to go in
2023. He is 39 points ahead of Ava Laney
of Huntington Beach and Ken McWilliams of
Menifee who are tied for second. Kyle Ager
of Canyon Lake is currently fourth and Ava
Santana is fifth.
