PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY IS BRINGING BACK TRAILER FIGURE 8 RACES By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, September 4, 2023) When LKQ Pick Your Part presents the next Night of Destruction at Perris Auto Speedway on September 16th, fans will see the return of the Figure 8 Trailer races for the first time in 2023. In addition to the 16th, they will also be part of the program during the Southern California Fair on October 14th and at the last night of Destruction of the year on October 21st. Good-sized fields of entries with drivers bringing their own trailers with their own accouterments on top of them. Drivers pulled outhouses, couches, Christmas trees, boats, and more on their trailers. At one event several years ago, one driver brought a trailer with a catamaran on it. The crowd loved the wild creations and they ate it up when one of the contraptions got knocked off a trailer and destroyed. However, as time progressed, entries shrank. The last two Trailer Figure 8 races in 2022, only drew six cars each. Like the size of the field, the size of the trailers grew smaller as well. Additionally, the wild variety of the items disappeared. Some of the small trailers contained small pedal car-sized toy vehicles and some were bare. The trailer race had lost its luster and was left off the schedule for 2023. Several drivers urged the track to bring them back. At first promoter Don Kazarian was hesitant but with further prodding from them, he decided to put them back on the program. “We are bringing back the figure 8 trailer races starting with the September 16th Night of Destruction,” he recently said. “We explained to the drivers why we canceled them and I think they understood why. They will be supplying their trailers and will hopefully have them decked out with crazy stuff like the old days. I hope we get good car counts as well. Hopefully, that happens and they can be a part of the regular program again beginning in 2024.” In addition to the trailer Figure 8 races, regular Figure 8s, Mini Stock Figure 8s, Demo Cross, Mini Stock Road Races and Double Deckers will also be on the card for the crowd-pleasing September 16th show. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. There will be a meet and greet with all of the drivers and cars on the track with the drivers passing out candy to all the kids from 5:15 to 5:45. The October 14th show at the fair will also include traditional Figure 8s. The other fair shows will be PASSCAR Street Stocks and Factory Stocks on October 12th, PASSCAR Super Stocks on the 13th, and Demo Cross and Double Deckers on October 15th. All four shows will begin at 7:00 p.m. and admission will be free with a ticket to the fair. For fans who do not wish to buy advance tickets, there will be plenty available for everyone at the ticket window each race night.
