LKQ PICK YOUR PART PRESENTS NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, March 4, 2024) After a one-month delay due to torrential rains that flooded Southern California at the start of February, Perris Auto Speedway will host the “Craziest Show On Dirt,” Night of Destruction presented by LKQ Pick Your Part this Saturday night, March 9th. The night of family fun and automotive chaos will include crazy figure 8 racing, wild, no-holds-barred demo cross, a daring figure 8 trailer race, mighty mini stocks on the challenging road course, and the zany double deckers. Double Deckers will be in action for the first time in 2023 Saturday at Perris. Doug Allen photo. The rain that pounded the facility in early February turned the entire infield into a lake. The track crew, led by promoter Don Kazarian, tried to get the infield pumped out but Mother Nature won the battle with her persistent rains delivering a knockout punch. Fortunately, the rain predicted for this week is a smidgeon of what accumulated last month and will not affect Saturday’s crazy show. “We hated to cancel the February Night of Destruction,” Kazarian said on Monday. “We tried to get the infield pumped out, but there was just too much water. It was up to the infield concession building. We could have hosted wakeboard races down there. Three of the five classes that race at Night of Destruction use the infield. So, it was impossible to go ahead with the event. Fortunately, things look much better for this Saturday. It is supposed to be sunny in the day with a high of 70 degrees. The rained-out show is behind us and we are looking to have a great, fun night on Saturday.” One good thing to come from the rainout is several cars were not ready for that night. They are done now and will be on hand on Saturday. Many first-night cars come in with flashy paint and their cars do not have a scratch on them. Few of them leave looking the same after a night of full-contact racing. “Opening night for any type of racing sees a lot of pretty cars,” Kazarian said. “Then again, there are some drivers who show up with battle-scarred cars at Night of Destruction. They know what the inevitable will be. Very few cars come out of Night of Destruction unscathed. They get beat and battered. There are very few rules so it is game on when it comes to wrecking the competition. It is the best of two worlds as it is racing and a demolition derby all rolled into one.” In addition to the fun and action of the racing, fans are urged to arrive early as there is an on track autograph and free candy giveaway session for kids with all of the drivers and cars from 5:15 to 5:45. Not only do the kids and adults who watch the races enjoy that, but the drivers and crews seem to love it as well. All of last year’s Night of Destruction champions are expected to be on hand on Saturday. Heading the list of entries is three-time and defending figure 8 champion Earl Cox of Norco. Cox was the only repeat champion at Night of Destruction in 2023. Newcomers to PAS titles were Riverside’s Kris Martin in both the mini stocks and the mini stock figure 8s, San Jacinto’s Trebor Stevens in demo cross, Lonnie Skillman & Don McCall in the double deckers and Bryce Wade-Pack who was overall Ironman champion (all classes combined). Tickets for Saturday's wild night of crashes and clean family fun are $20.00 for adults. For kids 6 to 12 it is only $5.00 and children five and under are admitted free. The fairgrounds charge $10.00 for parking. There will be plenty of tickets for everyone at the ticket window on Saturday. This event will not sell out.
