FANS CAN WIN A RACECAR AT SATURDAY’S NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION AT PERRIS By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, September 2, 2024) When LKQ Pick Your Part presents Night of Destruction this Saturday, September 7th at Perris Auto Speedway, fans will have a unique opportunity to win a turnkey race car. After the crazy double-decker main event, driver and car owner Lonnie Skillman is going to draw a raffle ticket, and one lucky fan will win his multi-time main event-winning car. That fan and a partner can be on the track for the final night of destruction of the season on October 26th. Riverside, California’s Skillman is no stranger to fans at the famous Southern California half-mile clay oval. Over the years, he has raced IMCA Modifieds and PASSCAR Super Stocks at the track. However, his most successful endeavor has been in the double-decker with co-driver Don McCall. They have won four of the first six races of the 2024 campaign. In the two they did not win, they finished in second place. The results give them a solid lead in the championship standings heading into Saturday’s show. “I am having a lot of fun with it, and I want to share some of the fun,” Skillman told Dave Stall on Sunday’s edition of the Racer Radio Show. “I am going to give the proceeds to the cancer society because my mom and many other friends died of cancer. Somebody else needs to have fun with this car.” For fans who are unfamiliar, the double-decker class at The PAS has one car mounted on top of another. The driver in the bottom car controls the throttle and the brakes, and the driver in the top car steers. The only communication between the two is hollering out the window or the driver in the top car stomping his foot. “The car on the bottom is a Chevy Caprice,” Skillman explained about the car he is raffling off. “A 1967 Volkswagen (Bug) is on top. It is a combination that cannot be beaten. It has a roll cage in it (the bug), and so does the car on the bottom.” The raffle tickets are eight for $20.00. So, the winning driver and a partner can be on the track for a chance to win $500.00 in the October 26th double-decker main event. Not too shabby for a $20.00 investment. Fans who purchased tickets at the last race and fans who buy tickets at this Saturday’s event will all be entered in the drawing. “We are going to sell tickets one more night, Saturday,” Skillman said. “That night after the main event, I will be pulling the number, and somebody can drive that car in the last race of the season.” After this season, Skillman, who still has another double-decker car, and his son Cale will be racing out of state in 2025. “We are going racing on the road and we are going to race at Bristol (Tennessee),” Skillman told Sunday’s radio audience. “I am going to drive my IMCA Modified. I have two of them. One for my son and one for myself. I have a big trailer and a big truck and we are going to go back there and have as much fun as we can.” In addition to the double-deckers, Saturday’s thrill-a-minute show will also include daring figure 8 racing, a wild figure 8 trailer race, the mighty mini stocks on the challenging road course, and no-holds-barred demo-cross. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM, and the first crash of the night will take place at 7:00. Be sure to come out early and bring all the kids in the neighborhood for the free candy giveaway and autograph session with all the cars and drivers on the track from 5:15 to 5:45. Tickets for Saturday's show are $20.00 for those 13 years of age and older. For kids six to 12, it is only $5.00, and children five and under are admitted free. The fairgrounds charge $10.00 for parking. Plenty of tickets will be available at the ticket window every race night for fans who do not wish to purchase in advance. The PAS is conveniently located on the freeway close Lake Perris Fairgrounds, home of the Southern California Fair, in nearby Riverside County. Take the 215 freeway.
