PASSCAR STOCK CARS JOIN SPRINT CARS AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY OPENER ON FEBRUARY 15TH By Scott Daloisio (Perris, CA, February 7, 2025) When Perris Auto Speedway launches its 29th season on Saturday, February 15th, joining the headlining Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars will be all three classes of the PASSCAR Series. That includes the Super Stocks, Street Stocks, and the American Factory Stocks. Spectator gates for the lid lifter will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing starting a half hour earlier than normal at 6:30. 2024 PASSCAR Street Stock Champion James Altman, Jr. Kenny Lonngren photo. Defending PASSCAR champions Chuck Becker of Yucaipa, Street Stock champion James Altman Jr. of Lake Elsinore, and David Stites of Canyon Lake, who topped the Factory Stock Class for the second time, are all expected back to open defense of their titles. Buena Park veteran Billy Griffin, who tied Becker for the Super Stock crown last season, is still waiting for his engine to be finished. While Becker and Griffin tied for the title, Altman and Stites had comfortable advantages when the last checkered flag of 2024 flew. Altman bested George Leventis of Rancho Palos Verdes by 15 points, and Stites beat Norco’s Ethan Kintop by 14 points in the Factory Stocks. In the first 27 seasons of racing at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval, over 80 PASSCAR and IMCA champions had been crowned. Of those, there was only one tie for a title. That came when Stefan Davies and Curtis Dietzsch were deadlocked for the Street Stock title in 2011. Some controversy greeted last year’s tie between Becker and Griffin. So, track officials acted to ensure it would not happen again. “There was some controversy that we did not have a tie breaker in place last season,” promoter Don Kazarian said. “We put in rules so it will not happen again. This year, if drivers are tied for the championship, the driver with the most wins will take the title. If they have the same amount of 20 point finishes (wins), we will then go to who has the most 19 point finishes (second place), and so on back until the tie is broken. This will prevent having co-champions again.” In addition to the three PASSCAR classes and the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, The PAS Young Guns and Senior Sprints are also on the card. Brecken Guerrero, who won the GAS Chassis Young Guns title in 2024 is taking a giant step and will run with the big boys, USAC/CRA, in 2025. Tustin’s Bob Suchy, who won his first title with the Senior Sprints, is expected to be back to defend his crown. Spectator gates will open at the normal 5:00 p.m. for the 29th season opener. However, racing will start 30 minutes earlier than normal at 6:30. Tickets for those ages 13 and over are $35.00. Seniors 65 and over get in for $30.00. For kids 6-12 it is $10.00 and children 5 and under are free. The fairgrounds charge $20.00 for parking.
