Why Do
You Race: Family tradition,
social interaction, competition and its
fun
Biggest Moment In Racing: I was
racing at the Orange Show in 1990. I
started at the back of the pack, made my
way up, passed the leader on the last lap,
then I realized my dad was in the stands
after I won the race and I saw him
standing up, with his arms in the air,
cheering for me. My dad was Chuck Becker,
Jr. my hero and mentor as a racecar
driver.
Funniest Thing That Has Happened To You In
Racing: my very first race in a
stock car, 1979, I was 15 at Ascot Park.
Both my dad and my uncle, Rick Becker, two
of the best drivers on the West coast,
were both on the track with me during
practice. I was “up on the wheel and
flying” or so I thought, until Rick passed
me on the inside and my dad passed me on
the outside at the same time. Both were
side-ways and both were waving at me-
probably laughing to themselves. I
suddenly realized “what the hell am I
doing here and how do they drive that
fast.” Scared the crud out of me.
